I am originally from Dallas so it took me a few years to get used to the small town my college is in. But I must say, I love small towns because of days like today.
I was in class this morning when I decided to check the tracking info on my Becker BK2 that was in transit. The knife wasn't supposed to be delivered till tomorrow but I thought I would check anyways. I looked up the number on the USPS website and it said it was out for delivery. I immediately became very excited as this is my first Becker and I was going to be getting it a day earlier than expected. I checked it again a few minutes before my last class of the day got out and I noticed that it said "Undeliverable as addressed". This had happened a few times before as we just put up a mailbox at our house this year. In fact, we are the first mailbox on our whole street haha. The problem was though that since our house is on the end of the street, new or substitute postal delivery workers would get confused and see no mailboxes at the front of the street and mark the package as undeliverable. The last time this happened they said they had it posted in the back that mail was actually deliverable and that it wouldn't happen again, but today it did.
I went by the post office on my way home fearing that they had already sent it back to the sender. Our small post office only has two or three desk workers (or whatever the technical term is) and one of them happens to go to my church. I was next in line and the person in front of me was mailing quite a few packages so the worker that goes to my church opened up the other lane and told me he would help me. I explained what happened and he wrote down the tracking info and went to the back. He came back a few minutes later saying that the package was marked undeliverable but someone in the back noticed it was addressed to me and that they put it back on the truck and out for delivery. He explained that the post office was closing but it should be on the way to my house but if it wasn't there when I got home in a few minutes that he would be there until 5:30 and if I rang the front buzzer he could come out and give me the package. He also said that if it comes back and is still there when he leaves that he could delivery it to me on his way home (he lives nearby).
Now, I don't know if that is against postal regulation or whatever but I don't care. That is a postal employee going above and beyond what is required. There have been many times in Dallas where packages were lost or what have you and the postal worker basically told me to go f my self. I find it very cool that I live in such a small town that the postal workers know me (even the one that doesn't go to my church) but that might just be because I order alot of stuff
.
Anyways, I go home and sure enough the package is on my front porch. I opened it up to find my beautiful new BK2. I messed around in the woodpile so it already has some love scratches.
I am glad to live in a small town of honest hardworking people. I am also glad that the Bk2 made it to it's new home safe and sound a whole day early. I can't wait for my BK11 to get in tomorrow.
Anyone else enjoy a small town life?
