This is only my second knife in Stellite but I already LOVE the stuff!
It's a little tough to machine and grind but it finishes sooooooooooo nice

So far under light use, the edge has held up VERY well. Hopefully I'll get to put it through it's paces this weekend if the Grouper are biting!!

Sweet knife Neil. What kind of edge would you say that stellite will take? Will it take and hold a real crisp edge like D-2 or 420v?How does it polish?

I'd like one of those...but with a pivot pins, that allows the knife to fold in half

Nice one Neil! I REALLY like the handle effects!

Whoa. Pretty cool, Neil. The handle really does set that package off. Did you blacken the blade, or is it just the pic?

Neil,

Very nice!

If the Stellite holds up to salt water as well as the Talonite has, I'm sure the Groupers will have much to worry about, for a very long time....

Michael

PS: I'm still trying to get one of Tom Mayo's talonite blades to rust. Salt water and striped bass blood have not had ANY effect as of yet... Let me know how your grouper tests go!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Hey, that looks like the one you made for me in Talonite but with different colours.
If this knife is like mine, it feels and performs as beautifully as it looks. Kit Carson is adamant that Stellite performs even better than Talonite. I guess I'm going to have to try it eventually.
If you're looking for something along these lines, Neil's work is really outstanding.

Wow..that looks sweet! Is that blue G-10? And are you selling the D2 and A2 you have left???
biggrin.gif

well rob....we all saw you post where you admitted you had some.....and C4...there is hardly any difference between Talonite (Stellite 6BH) and Stellite 6K. The big question is....(after using stellite for almost 17 years).....Does Stellite LOVE YOU? and neil...one more thing....whats with all those holes!?

Elim,
It takes a similar edge to D2 and feels the same on the sharpening belt. This knife has a rather smooth edge however, I think that anyone that likes the "toothy" edges will find that Stellite works well for this. I made use of ALL the scrap! I polished it, sharpened it, bent it and BROKE it!! Pretty TOUGH STUFF

This knife has a 400 hand rubbed finish because I find this holds up best to the Kydex sheaths. 600 plus to a mirror finish is NO problem and is easy to work with (maybe I shouldn't have said that)

I only work with materials that I can heat treat so I have no experience with 420.
Richard,
Thanks! Not much room for scrim on this model!!
Mitch,
A folder version of this is in the works.....Has been for a while

Al,
The blade has a SHINY hand rubbed finish on it! My scanner gave it the black coated look

C4,
NICE Striper!! Your right, Neither wind nor rain nor salt water or fish guts will rust our HI TECH knives!!
L6 & Taz,
I probably should hang on to my oven and steel material.... I don't think I could handle making a Stellite American Ninja!
Rob...HJK,
THANKS

Tom, yes i got a piece of stellite from you as a matter of fact! The new stuff is supposedly treated differently, so want to try the new stuff! You know, just got to keep expanding my horizons so to speak!

I just posted this knife for sale in the makers forum. I have another less fancy one right behind it that I'll keep and abuse

Then next one has black and gray G10 if someone wants to see a scan of it, please Email me.
Neil
PS Rob, I think it's illegal to ship Stellite to Hawaii or something

that is simply not true...it is completely legal...what is illegal is a vote for bush in the state of Fla. Or is it? Glad you are so excited about the stuff....we've been trying to tell everyone all along how great it is.....some are slow learners...or maybe just slow to the polls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom,

The problem is not the pollsters: it is the guys that put too many holes... (Not that anyone has ever accused you of that...)

Tom, C4,
The WHOLE problem started with the liberal media NOT knowing that our state spans two time zones!! THEN declaring winners while the polls were FAR from closed!!! Then, the INCREDIBLY COMPLICATED
rolleyes.gif
ballots that people coldn't figure out!! It;'s really gone crazy around here
