I love this and thought it was Olivewood because I forgot it is probably Tigerwood

Not sanded past 400 grit. Not buffed. Yet holding up perfectly as my do almost everything knife’s handle. Frequently washed with warm soapy water but still feels as smooth and tight as when I made it. Several months. Very slight proud tang developed but so minor. Lightly sanded with 400 grit to remove the crisp edge. I need to get more olivewood in the shop. Anyone else rocking olivewood in the kitchen? Love to see it.

You are 100% correct, it is a beautiful wood, and i don't understand why it is not used more. Really develops character with use. :).

I've never seen olivewood quite that dark before. Natural wood has a soul that just doesn't translate after stabilization, it also has an unbeatable balance.

Beautiful tool ya got there ;)

Wow those knives have real character David Mary - they look timeless with the gorgeous patina - well done mate !
I love olive wood - it`s so hard and tough but exquisitely beautiful - like English yew - both trees can live up to 2000 years and some are 3000 to 5000 years plus - amazing.

I've bought quite a few Olive handled knives & made quite a few as well, it can be plain with colour from blond to fairly dark and everything in-between, my favourite is with lots of different colours mixed up like marble or smoke.
It's nice to work with and finishes well, smells nice too but like any wood breathing in dust is to be avoided!
Not specifically kitchen knives but lovely grain & colour!

Homemade handles are made from firewood! It's burnt in tons here in winter (from old olive orchards that've been removed). 😟

I'm starting to question whether my knife actually is olivewood.....

It's hard to tell being so small. Kinda has mesquite coloring?
Do you remember if it smelled while working on it?

Some woods smell very distinctive

Don't remember. Some woods I know by smell without a doubt though are Bocote and Desert Ironwood. Bocote smells great. Ironwood.... I used to think it stinks, but I actually kinda like it now.

Haha.... I think ironwood is pretty, but I haven't used it yet, heard it smells like pee?

-Walnut logs burn with a spicy almost "winter" smell.

-lignum ? Smells Very pretty, almost like a spicy perfume. Even days later it smells great....but not the prettiest to look at

Olive smells like lovely Olive oil when you work it.

Olive can have straighter grain but maybe not quite as dark as your images if it's fresh?.... but I'm not sure.
It can be very dark if it's old, even black as the old Pestle & mortar with the Muela knife in the image shows.

Sorry for poor artificial light image, I've just taken it.

Yeah Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer Ironwood is an acquired smell.

I'm going to come right out and say it: I am pretty certain that I called my knife handle olivewood in error. It might actually be Goncalo Alvez aka Tigerwood. Here is a knife I made for Good Knife Co. (third one down) and it definitely has Olivewood. I'm editing the thread title from "I love Olivewood" to "I love this and thought it was Olivewood because I forgot it is probably Tigerwood". 🤣

As much as I like Suretouch, I don’t have any anymore. But love wood too:

Zebrawood
Red palmwood
Olivewood
Cross-cut micarta with red and green liners
