I recently picked up this lil' Sebenza Classic with the blood holes. Looks similar to a Tom Mayo modification. But I dont believe it is one. Mayo's holes seem some what tappered at the edge and these are not. Also the holes are only on one side. Never the less I love this knife...just cant put it down!:D

Jules that is a cool "little?" knife! Bro, it looks like the large classic...am I mistaken on that? Did it come from Chris that way or did someone do the mods? Can you notice the weight diff compared to a non-modded classic?

I like it. Bet it's super light now. Holes should increase the "grippiness" too. Congrats!

Brian, it's a small classic but just like it's big brother Lg classic ...but with the blood holes. And I believe it was modified after it left CRK.

Yes to both, better gripping and light as a feather! Now I see why everybody is after Tom Mayo's excellent modification ones.

Thanks guy's,

When you cut yourself the blood has someplace to go !!! LOL

Where does the name "blood holes" come from?

It looks very nice, by the way.

Excellent question,
You know...I have no clue! ever since I was a kid that's what they were called. Blood or bleed holes, there supposedly to let the blood flow in the wound to cause hemorrhaging. And the blood grooves were to work in a similar way ...I guess. I always thought the blood groove was for some kind of added strength point or an added point of weight to a specific point on the blade.

I'm open to the correct answer if anyone would like to jump in!

Really, they are just to lessen the weight of the knife.

I believe your correct for weight a decoration purposes. But what about on the blade itself? Does it serve any purpose? or is it purely for the weight and decocoration?
