I'm sitting in the lobby of the speech therapy department of a local university, while my daughter is in a therapy session. I'm reading the newspaper, and notice an ad for a new lightweight portable oxygen machine. I decide to save this ad for my mother, so naturally I take out my Camillus/Ralph EDC and start cutting out the ad. Then I remember where I am. On a college campus. In a building. I think about all the horror stories I read on Bladeforums about people freaking out over knives. I look around. Several young ladies walking through on the way to class. No one gives me a second look. No one freaks out. Campus security doesn't show up. I continue with my chore, then put the knife away.

I've never had an adverse reaction when I pulled out a knife - although I usually just pull it out, cut something and put it away.

I once had a recent Korean immigrant express amazement at my Military's size, and he said he thought it was illegal, but his whole demeanor was of admiration for the knife, not fear.

Even here in AZ, where just about anything is legal, I have a hard time not being discreet with my knives at the University. Yeah, it's AZ, but most of the people are from out of state. They don't know they're legal (autos, balis), and it's pointless trying to argue with them. "That's illegal!" "Dude, you're from Wisconson, what the hell do you know?"

No offence to any Wisconsonites, it was just an arbitrary choice of states for an AZ law-ignorant person. Hell, most people in AZ think autos are illegal too.

hehehe

Az may have some liberal knife laws, but I've once got a great deal from a guy in Az who didn't want to risk carrying his Cold Steel Voyager there anymore. This was a guy walking around with a gun on his hip that was perfectly legal, and a folding knife in his pocket that wasn't. Gave him $12.00 and brought the knife back here to Ca. where it is legal.
