I`m Noticing A Trend

Looking at the "Knives On Order" list, it looks like about 70% of them are smaller sized knives. Going by the last couple of sales, the first ones to sell are smaller knives (4 in less than an hour in the last sale). Anyone else see a trend here? It looks like I should focus on small knives, and eliminate some larger ones. The Classic Kephart, Rogue, and Sauk Trail are not nearly as popular as posts about them indicated they would be. Heck, I even have an order for a Hiker`s Backup, I have not made one of those in years!

I bet you'll get more orders for the Hiker's Backup once you post pics of the new one.

The Hiker's Backup was my first "official" model, it even came before the Nessmuk and Kephart. Maybe I should offer a "Special Edition" with the original "bottom K" stamp.

2 3/4" blade of 1/8" O1 steel, 5 3/4" OAL

With "bottom K" stamp.

Very early one with no K stamp.

Smaller is so much more handy for smaller jobs and yet still can handle tough chores, and light to carry. To me, 2 1/2 - 4 inches is just right I have been finding. The problem is sometimes the smaller knife still comes with too small of a handle.

That's why I like the E01 hunter.!! Good size handle..

..

I think its a price\purpose thing. We all like the big knives but on a monthly basis a small knife is easier to justify and honestly something you'll likely get to use a heck if a lot more day to day.

I agree about the smaller knives being more handy as they're a lot more easy to carry everyday. I've also noticed that your bigger knives that don't sell tend to do quite well in the raffles you have going every now and then.

I use my JK Pocket Scandi more than any small knife I own. I think it's one of your best models!

i was thinking about how well the raffles go, big knifes certainly go there easy enough.

It is kind of a gamble though might not get enough to cover the cost of the knife.

The current raffle has kind of died, if it does not sell a few more chances there will not be a sheath included.

I lean toward it being a price thing. Most people that use/want a big knife have a particular look or feel in mind. Smaller knives with moderate price tags are easier to justify purchasing in people's minds, and most usual tasks can be handled by them without being too specific of a design.

And if you offer stretched handles on the smaller knives, even guys like me with meathooks for hands can use them with ease. When the handle turns into a two finger grip for us is when they don't work.

Guess I better get off the pot if I want my Rogue, huh? Summer's not too far off when the OT will really start to pour in...

+1 to this.
