I made a folding/fixed blade wall rack!

I've been tired of my knives taking up shelf space so I started looking at different storage options. Of everything I looked at I never found anything I liked because many were out of my price range, some were for show, and the rest seemed more for long term storage.

I wanted something that would keep my knives neat, out of the way, and offer easy access for me. I have to carry different EDC knives based on if I'm at class, work, or out and about.

I figured I needed to find a thin metal bar that I could mount horizontally on a board. With the bar mounted I could hang my folding knives by their pocket clips and hang some fixed blades by their sheaths. I might also add some hooks to it so I can hang my SAK, Micra, and other assorted knives/tools.

1. I pulled the metal bar out of an old filing cabinet my office was throwing out
2. Grabbed a 1.5X.75 inch board for Lowes, some screws, and some washers to use as spacers.

Now I just need to figure out how/where I want to mount my new rack. Total cost for this project was about $7.

Nice! I especially like that well-used Blur:)
I think it would look best if you just screw it onto your wall, maybe even make a few more to hang over each other.

This is really funny.. I've been brainstorming here lately and came up with almost the same idea. Never thought about leaving the ends open so i can slide fixed blades on there though. Hope you don't mind if I borrow that idea when i get around to making my own :)

Do it and be sure to post some pics!

I liked this idea but did not like the idea of using the metal bar. So after much pondering and a brief search around my house I came up with an idea. As I dabble in kydex from time to time, I had several scrap pieces lying around. As a prototype. I cut a 1 inch strip about 12 inches long, heated and bent the last inch int a L shape. (Kinda like a towel rack) Drilled holes into each end and mounted the whole shebang to the door of my safe with screws. A 12 inch piece holds about 6 to 7 medium to large folders. Just slide the pocket clip over the kydex. Seems to be less wear and tear on the knife. Thanks for the idea!

Left this out....This works for fixed blades that have a Tek Loc or a Dozier type belt loop. The kydex I used is a little flimsy to hang a normal sheath on. Also, the way my safe is configured a long rack will not work. The door almost contacts the inner shelves/dividers, so I had to stick with smaller racks and some wierd spacing.

for hanging SAKs you could drill some holes in it, run some string through them, and tie some fishing snap swivels

I like the idea.

I might make up a fancy version sometime for my folders. It would definitely cut down on desk clutter. Some sort of hardwood and maybe G11 for the clip-rail.

Looks good fella. Quick question, security??? Could someone (hypothetically) just lift one and walk away?

Yes. I'm not too worried about it though...

Between the Woman, class, and work I dont ever have people over. Plus I keep away from anyone who is even the slightest bit shady.

My knives that are put up for long term storage stay in my 600 pound gun safe.
