I never programmed for the web, but with the newer AI coding assistants its the easiest way to have something that years ago would had cost thousands and take months...
I have my proper website with more than 10000 photos, but I always wanted a way to have my customers make their own "Frankestein" knife, meaning, select steel type from one knife, the handle from other an so on, so I can quickly figure out what they want and start talking $$ and timeframes.
Using windows notepad I wrote in plain words what I wanted, tried to be as detailed on the main features and then ran this thru chatgpt back and forth a few times, once the description was reasonable and better described what I had in mind, knowing that when I started some things will change, but its always better to have a plan...
Then used Anthropic Claude Code (their $20/mo plan) and gave it the plan just created. This was last friday.
Today I can call the system completed, yes, I can add a ton of stuff to it, but I call this "featuritis" (the disease of adding fluff features LOL)
Here are the (translated from Spanish) instructions of the system :
The best part? I made the whole development open source, so if you like it you can clone the repository at: https://github.com/pablopeu/confi translate if needed and upload it to your preferred web hosting (not sure if pointing to a github page is allowed, delete if it is not please)
Hope you guys like it, I'm happy.
Pablo
PS: Here are a couple of images of the frontend of the site and then two more of the backend administration

This configurator is not my website, but a tool to help you customize your knife using details from other models.
1. Image Selection
On the main page, you can select up to 6 images per knife.
There are 5 configurable knives (5 buttons to save different designs).
Tap an image to select it (a green checkmark will appear). If you try to add more than 6, you must first deselect one.
2. Detail Configuration
When you finish selecting, press the configurator button. In this section, each image has 3 fields to highlight what you like.
There is also an additional field for general comments.
3. Save and Share
When you save the configuration, you can: Share via WhatsApp or Telegram.
Use the link that the system copies to the clipboard (for email, iMessage, etc.).
This link is also displayed in the browser's address bar and allows you to view and modify the complete configuration wherever its used.
Thank you for thinking of me for your next knife. Pablo
