A week ago Friday I went out and visited with a great knife maker. Many of you know him... Alan Davis. I live not too far from him and he was gracious enough to have me out.
We selected some 1080+ to make a fixed blade knife from and I went to town. Short of some instruction and a tiny bit of cleaning up of the plunge line on one side I made this thing myself. The final edge was applied by Alan as well. We cut, ground, heat treated, tempered and patina'd this little bad boy in one afternoon. When I left I had a cool little knife and homework to apply the scales.

Specs:
1080+ steel
6.25" total length
2 7/16" edge
Forced patina finish
Brass pins
I'm not sure about what wood the scales are, Alan Pulled about three sets and told me to pick one.

Handmade bead from a pen blank.
Brown latigo lace lanyard

I want to thank Alan for a awesome afternoon and his hospitality. I hope I can talk him into having me out a few more times as I have a few design ideas for number 2,3,4... lol

I made the sheath, the wooden bead and the lanyard myself as well.
The sheath is hand stitched and stamped with a geometric stamp and my new favorite border tool.

Specs:

Wayne Juesche Geometric Stamp
Ellis Barnes lined seeder stamp
HTA "Promise" border stamp
9 oz Hermann Oak leather
Waxed thread

I hope you like it and can see passed a few of the flaws. I am excited to try another soon.

Thoughts and opinions, critiques and praises wanted.

Thanks for looking.

J.

PS If this is in the wrong spot please feel free to move it.

Really nice package!

Great to have a mentor to visit and learn from!

I visited my friendly local Mastersmith just last week.

Oops I meant to post a photo of the back of the sheath.

I like a molded belt loop vs the fold over belt loop. The belt portion was wet molded to fit a 1 1/2" belt, then attached to the sheath. The knife pommel/end stands about 1" proud of the top of the belt when worn. All the internal stitching is protected by a stitching channel.

Thanks for the comments!

Great job. Is this your first? If so, you are destined for greatness.

Are you asking if this is my first knife? Yes.
I have made a few sheaths in the past. First knife though.
