Looks pretty good for a first try. It looks like the grind is a little off and the wood could maybe use a little more contouring but that is to be expected. I think a little more practice and some better tools and you would get it more even as you learn the little tricks. Good job!

Nice job. Check out the Maker's forum on this site. The real experts reside there.

Back to your knife, really nice work on the blade. Looks like a great flat grind. What did you use to grind the blade?

Also, I like the hole in the tang and how you left it exposed from the scales for a lanyard.

thanks. I used an angle grinder for the blade i wish i had access to a belt grinder but im on a budget right now. the handle is temporary im gonna duracoat the blade to prevent rust.
other then that i just sat in front of the TV and sanded the hell out of it

any cheaper belt sanders anyone can recommend, i was looking to keep it under $150

Have you checked out the makers and tinkering/maintenance subforums? A quick search will yield quite a few threads on budget grinders and good places to buy quality belts. I don't know one off hand but it seems like there is a grizzly that is pretty popular. They also discuss the pros/cons of the different size grinders and the belts they use. Worth a look/ search.

thanks but the search option doesnt work for me. Il look around the knife making forum

Search was just opened back up to non paying members recently. Does it still not work for you? If you end up considering the Craftsman grinders you may want to watch the Sears ad because they put them on sale every couple months. Harbor freight also has some cheap ones and will do free shipping periodically if you don't have one close by. But their stuff is basically all cheap china import stuff and it might be worth it to pay a little more up front. I don't know for sure on the grinder quality so they might be ok for what they cost?

I love the blade shape. I have always liked drop points.Nice first knife.

Looks good! It looks like a nice camp/utility knife.

I got my belt sander from Sears for $130. It's 2 x 42 inch belts. not quite professional, but it gets the job done. The secret to using it is patience and not forcing things!

Thats a great looking chopper! Beats the heck out of my first knife.Check your local pawn shops for a 1x30 belt sander.Usually about 15-20 bucks. They will do a lot more than you may think.I still use mine for fingergrooves and scotchbrite type finishing.Belts are dirt cheap too.The Sears 2x42 is a good grinder also for the money.
