Well this is my official real spoon I just made today while I watching my son play in the pool. My neighbor cut down some branches off some trees to keep them away from her house. So being that I was bored I took some for some projects I have been meaning to try out. I don't know what kind of wood it is, but I don't plan on using it anyways just because of that reason.
To me it look like it's from a blackberry tree. Any whoo here are some pics I hope you guys like them.
I split it on both ends so that I can get a start.

I ended up with this peice and I started carving away.

Just to save some room on this server I speed by a couple of steps and I moved on to making the handle. Hope you guys don't mind.

Smoothing out the handle and shaping the scoop up some.

And now the finished project. I used a scoop to finish the scoop up and still rataining the a decent amount of thickness.

All in all, it took me about 30 minutes of starting and stopping. The knife I used was a Marttiini all purpose model, which worked out great. Hope ya guys like it.
Thanks for looking.

Great job!!!
That looks really good. Making a spoon is alot harder than I thought it was, the ones I have made were usable but not nearly as good looking as yours!!

I have the same knife, but haven't used it yet. I hope my first turns out that good!

That actually looks like a spoon - that never happens to me :D

Nice work, GEC!

You have inspired me to make a spoon on my next outing. I usually make a set of 'survival chopsticks' when I go camping, but a spoon is definitely more ambitious.

All the best,

- Mike

looks great, Although a spork would have really showed some talent ;)

I have to try that one out LOL.

Thank you all for all of the great comments. I think I might even try my hand at making a buck saw next.

Great choice of material!

Remember some author saying "bushcraft is 50% about getting the right material"

Most of us (including myself) rush into hacking stuff with little thinking. Nice reminder.

My first guess might have been Cherry...The lenticel pattern is similar to Birch, but it doesn't smell so great.

Nice job! I've never used a crooked branch like that, I always just use a large piece of wood and carve the curve into it.
