When I was a kid I started burning a chevron ( it's actually an insignia made up of 3 chevrons ) into my tool handles because it was an easy symbol to make, and was a symbol I liked because my dad was a sergeant in the army.
I used to just use my wood burner, but I never could repeat it exactly and my tool recently broke.
Here's what I was able to make out of a bolt and an old screwdriver handle.

It's definitely not perfect but it works, and a lot better then I expected for my first attempt.

That's great work! How did you make the chevrons on the end? You said you used a bolt but how did you make the bolt into chevrons?

Looks good to me. I'm not sure why but when it comes to wood branding it just seems to look better when it's not perfect. Perfect makes it seem like a factory thing I guess.

First I hammered it out ( that's why it sorta looks like it was welded on )
Then I filed it into the basic shape and simply cut a couple of V's in it with my dremel ,the bit used was this little flying saucer shaped grinding bit.

Good for you! It'll ID any of your stuff amongst friends and associates that's for sure. I spray-painted all of my tools with Caterpillar yellow 35 years ago because I was fed up with colleagues and workers 'borrowing' or using my stuff without asking.

I decided to try and make another one in a different much easier way to try out.
What I'm gonna do this time is simply dremel the shape into the face of the bolt ,leaving me with what I'd call a relief stamp where the unburned part will be my mark.
If it works well, it's an easy method cots could use to make himself a stamp.

This literally took 5min and that's only because I had to find the bolt then file off the original markings. I think I've discovered the world's easiest way to make yourself a handle brand / makers mark. All you do is take a bolt and cut a pattern into the end with a dremel, and hold it with five grips when using it.
( I'm not gonna use this one, I just wanted to see how it would work )

Cool. I like the new one. I managed to at least pick up a brass knob at the hardware store for a buck and a half or something. Aaaaaand that's all the further I got this weekend. :(
