i made this knife for a friends wedding last month. the blade is made from m4 that came from a power hacksaw blade. i wet ground the blade to keep it cool and save me time from having to quench it.

the knife is 9 7/8" overall and the cutting edge is 6 1/4". the handle is tiger maple that the bride picked out.
the maple was home stabilized with car clearcoat by member joesouth but i put 4 coats of superglue on to give it a good shine. it was a last minute gift idea. i plan on making a plaque to display it on the wall.

That turned out really nice. I can see that doing a lot of things well in the kitchen.

How did you like working with the M4?
I probably don't need to ask if it's sharp.:D

very nice, Richard. i'm sure they will appreciate it. you do some fine work.

mack, tman. everyone at the wedding really liked it. it took about 4 hours to grind the bevel which is 3/4" wide and a full flat chisel grind (mack, you have seen how slow my belt sander runs too). that m4 power hacksaw blade is some hard stuff. grinding wet sure made it go a lot faster too but for some reason when i grind wet, i seem to grind my fingertips :D.

since i have over 20 hours total in making the knife, its going to be hung on the wall on a plaque. his wife wanted to use it in the kitchen but i told her i'll make another for in the kitchen. i did get them a couple of whustof kitchen knives.

that was the first knife i made from m4 but i did make a machete from some m42 for the same buddy and it holds a real good edge. you could have cut the cake and plate too :D.

Screw the plaque....this one would be slicing down smoked ham...ribs and brisket. This one needs to get dirty!

it did get dirty cutting the cake and not being cleaned properly. with 20 hours in making the knife, its going on the wall :D

Every time they see you pull up in the driveway there will be a mad dash to grab the knife (hopefully clean) and get it into the plaque - to acquiesce to your stipulations on the gift. :p :D

Very nice knife Richard. ;)

since there will be grandkids visiting, i will round the edge to make it a little safer and to make sure they are not tempted to use it. i am even thinking of putting glass to protect the knife and lettering-artwork that my buddys sister in law will be putting on the plaque. i'll make them another knife with neoprene slabs that they can use for a kitchen knife that they can abuse.

That's mighty nice of you Richard. I'm sure they'll want one of those for using around the kitchen!

Beautiful knife Richard! You could make some serious dough if you could blast some of them out and sell em!
