I've made 10 or so knives over the years
Made 3 over the past 2 days
1 of them I think I can make a decent blade out of. It's the file knife
The other 2 me and my son were messing around with some angle iron so they will just be beaters.
I have so so much to learn and not alot of money to invest into a setup.
All of these were profiled with an angle grinder, file and stones.
Probably need to invest in a belt sander/ actual angled knife sharpener
Heat treated in our woodstove.
Probably didn't get them hot enough.
I'm gonna put many more hours into shaping and sanding the file knife.
I like the crude style but I want to better my skill, expesially on the edge profiling and heat treating

Trying to post pictures can't figure out how

Some of the knives ive most enjoyed have been some of the most crude. One of my favorite pairing knives is a svord peasant with the tang chopped off straight burnt into a smooth piece of sweet gum wood.

im currently working on restoring a knife i found at an old home site in the mountains. The markings on the blade indicate its over 120 years old. A lot of knives back then were very crude.

Go watch some videos of villagers in Africa grinding down an old machete on stones that have 4" of wash in them. Youll be amazed at how well simplr knives and stones can work.

It is a shame we cannot see your recent work.
Maybe you need some change in your tools like a belt grinder fresh files and good new 1080 flat stock.
Do not recycle steel like car leaf springs and rail road spikes, its not worth it.
You can recycle files but you need proper heat treatig equipment, which you need anyways.
Angle grinders do not give good results. With an angle grinder the chance it turns out crude is relatively high.
3 knives in two days....consider 1 knife in 4 days.
If you invest more time the results will be much better.
keep them coming and good luck:thumbsup:
