So UPS found my shipment and delivered my two Byrds.

I will write up a few reviews in the coming weeks, but wanted to post my initial thoughts.

I didnt know what to expect with a Byrd knife. But as someone correctly pointed out the other day, I think Im not a collector nor a user of high end knives... Instead, a well built, well designed working knife is what I like... And I think I found some.

I ordered a Crow and a Meadowlark. I saw them both on sale at Spyderco for 20.00 each. And wow.... First, the G10 is great! I mean where else can you find a well made knife with G10 scales for 20.00?? Maybe there are some out there, but not that i have seen with this quality of design and ergonomics.

Just great knives... How impressed was I? Well I went back and bought another Meadowlark with SS Scales for under 15.00!

Are they top dollar, high end, fancy pants knives? nope... Are they pretty DARN good EDC blades that are well thought out, designed and executed for an affordable price? YEPPERS!

And here is the cool part. I have been kicking around the idea of a Delica with SS scales. Im not sure I would like the all metal over RFN or G10. Well, for 15.00 I can try out a SS Meadowlark and carry it round for a few months to see if I like the feel. :) If I dont... I still have a nice SS knife and saved a good bit of cash! (thats my story and Im sticking to it!)

WOO HOO doin the happy new knife dance!

I have the meadowlark in s.s. It's quite a heavy knife . In my personal preference, I'd prefer any other type of scale . But that is just me. The s.s. just adds to much weight.

The Byrds make fine EDC knives. I have a G10 Meadowlark 1 but I've carried a Delica for years so I'm used to and prefer FRN. I have a few FRN Meadowlark 2's and like them a lot. Have a couple of the first generation as well but the clips are a little tighter than my taste. The M2 FRN is just right though.

Hard to go wrong with these knives. Especially at that price.

Very honest worker my G-10 Meadowlark2 seems to be.

It carries well, seems well finished and is very reasonably priced, I don't feel shortchanged at all. If it cost twice as much it would still be credible. More worker knife than beater (I don't abuse knives on principle) and a pleasant functional carry.

Might try a Robin next.

imho, spyderco gave us affordable, well made knives, that are the best value on the planet. by creating this line they have a customer for life. find me a knive that rivals my crow in g-10 at this price point and i'll buy 3.
