I may need an intervention

When I become interested in something, I tend to go overboard. I have many interests, but seem to focus on one or two at a time. I suppose it's a sign of a crazy person, but there is nothing I can do about it now. :D

Within the past month or so, I have been on an auction site, seeing what catches my eye. Bad move. I wound up winning " a few" knives. Some better than others, but all caught my eye in some form or fashion. They all need to be cleaned, but I wanted to get pics up while I was in the mood.

Here is a group photo.

Starting with the smallest, here is a Case Small Stockman. This thing is small! Scales are a dark green, but look almost black until they are seen in bright light. The pen blade tends to want to close behind the sheepsfoot blade.

Next is a Peanut that just calls to me. Not sure why, but it seems to want to be in my pocket. It's a Craftsman branded knife, but I'm not sure of the manufacturer. Schrade, maybe? It's nearly the same size as a Case Peanut, but the blade is bigger.

Here it is with my Yeller 'nut.

Next up is a pair of Smooth Rose Bone Cases. I got the Peanut by a pleasant accident. The seller had it marked as a Peanut, but with a pic of the Jack. I didn't pay attention to the model # she had posted, so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. There is quite a bit of difference in the scales on the Peanut, but it doesn't bother me. It is my 2nd Case Peanut, but surely not the last. She had the Jack in a seperate auction, so I was determined to own it, too. I did pretty well for the both of them. Both are the same year.

Next is another knife that calls to me. It is like a long lost friend. I can't explain it.
It's a Western. They call it a Whittler, but it looks like a stockman pattern in blade position, with whittler blades. 2 springs, with the main blade and spring twice as thick as the smaller blades and spring.

Next up are some Imperials. There is a Diamond Edge Camper, a Diamond Edge Barlow, and 2 regular Barlows. The 2 regular Barlows I couldn't pass up, as they were practically given away.

Here are a couple Old Timer 89OT's. I like them because I haven't seen many. I like the Old Timers, as i can usually get them very sharp.

Last, but not least, is this Schrade 294 Trapper. I don't know the age on this, can anyone help?

There, I think that's all. Like I said, I still need to clean them up, and sharpen them. I did sharpen the little Craftsman Peanut, and that thing is like a scalpel. If anyone has any info they care to share about anything here, feel free. They are nothing spectacular, but they are a bit of glitter that caught this crow's eye.

Very nice collection!! Love the 6504 whittler by Western. I have one by Camillus that is one of my favorites. The rose bone Cases too and the.....and the...lol

Excellent pictures of some really fine knives!

I would say yes, your Craftsman peanut is made by Schrade. Looks very similar to my Craftsman 9473 small stockman, which is nearly identical to Pete's Schrade small stockman.

If it makes you feel any better, I've bought three times that many knives in a single lot on the 'Bay.

Congrats on some fine additions.

Nice collection you have there! I really like that yellow Case. I know the overboard feeling, I've been on a binge myself. Good luck.....:D

I knew y'all would understand. :triumphant:

I'm sure there will be more.

Doug, that very pic is what made me think mine was a Schrade.

Very nice! From personal experience though, the only problem with buying too many at once is that you don't get to spend enough time with each one to form an attachment. I've had a couple sprees where within a few months I had forgotten I had even bought one or two of them.

Congrats on your new knives!

And, yeah, I know exactly what you are talking about...Zippos, watches, knives, drums, stereo gear...:D

Wait till for hunger for vintage slipjoints wanes and the desire for customs really heats up.
Thats when it really gets bonkers.

Oh, the desire for customs is there, I'm just not disciplined enough to stop buying less expensive stuff in order to save for one. I already know what I want, and have it narrowed down to a few different makers. I just have to convince my wallet. :D

 I've already done that.

I was known to buy a watch, then order another while I was waiting for the first to arrive, then buy another one while I was waiting on the second.

Having all three come on the same day requires lots of 'splainin' to do...haven't done it with knives though.

When my Mrs left this morning to go to taichi with a friend I got the "don't spend ANYTHING " talk.
Now I am soon to be the proud owner of the gunstock RR Barlow with that checkered bone. Yesss.
I don't even have to do any 'splainin' nowadays.
cheers.

Watches are another weakness of mine, but I have more money in knives than watches...so far.

I've had days where I get home from work and a result of a few days worth of drinking and ebaying my porch looks like Christmas morning with my mailbox playing the role of the Christmas tree I dont even know which one to open first....and the sad thing is when I'm done opening them all I start to think of what's next...
