i dontt want to throw it away though, cause i mean... it might be useful to someone? so, if you want it, shoot me an email rwan AT umich DOT edu. it's yours free to tinker with, shipping included.

good luck.

ooooh, let's do a tinkering passaround, everybody gets to screw with it. It'll be our 'FrankenBuck' :D

I think you can sent it back to buck for a new blade. I would repost this in the buck section and you'll get a ton of information.

Yes contact Buck. For that matter maybe now you can opt for a custom BG42or S30V blade in it.

I'd be interested in grinding it down, possible into a new shape like wharncliffe or something. Bet you could have some fun playing around with that on a power belt.

thanks for the advice guys.. i broke it doing something stupid, and i'm not looking to spend any money on getting it repaired.

it belongs to vivi now-- everyone wish him luck. :D

thanks

i broke my 110 almost exactly like that last fall skinning a deer, i suppose i should send it to buck and get it fixed,

I think it was a great idea giving this the title "i messed up" instead of "Giveaway." This way the people who opened the thread were people who wanted to help.

Grind it into a nice sheepsfoot, that would look cool.

Looking at the photo I was thinking take the swedge down to meet the sharpened edge and maybe take the rest of the curve out of the edge so its true wharncliffe fashion.

Vivi or Midget or whoever winds up getting this knife.
Send it back to Buck with a lovely note expounding how much much you love Buck and this particualr knife , they will replace the blade with a new one for you , very most likely free of charge

Please do not butcher this knife on a freakin cinder block... Hell I will even pay for your shipping !!! If you cannot afford it.
(I'm pretty strapped now myself but am willing to do what it takes to see that classic restored to it's former glory).

that's very nice of you, and thanks for the advice but... isn't that sort of taking advantage of the system? the people at buck are good people, and i'm actually pretty certain they'd replace the blade for free..

but i broke the knife in an honest-to-god, voiding-the-warrantee sort of way. it starts with "P" and ends with "rying."

in either case, i expect vivi will do a decent job with it. ;) it won't be butchered on cinderblock.

...Here's what I did to one of my 112's that had a "messed up" blade...I like it better than the clip point...:D

...That's a Nickel bolstered 112...This one's a Brass bolstered 112...

Short blades are useful. A full-size handle fits your hand ... your hand doesn't get smaller when you use a short blade. It's not a natural law that says you can't have a short blade with a full-size handle.

Vivi you are a striaghtforward guy . As long as you were straightforward with buck I think its a win win situation . It wouldn,t hurt to E-mail them anyway .

If you decide to modify then a short blade with a long handle makes for a good carver and a robust blade . If you can post a pic when you are through .

I wanted to let everyone know I received the 112 today. I'm debating on whether I want to take the edge up to make it similar to DarrylS's knives or take the spine down to a more wharncliffe style edge. I should be getting my new coarse stones around Monday, which is probably when I'll begin working on it. I'd like to try and modify it simply for the enjoyment factor, then depending on how it turns out I might try to work something out with Buck.

...Don't forget Vivi...I didn't modify the old clip point blades on those. The original blades were either broken or all used up. I pulled the old blades and replaced them with 442 blades and lockbars that I had layin' around...Let us see what that 112 looks like when yer done...
