I might be out of line here....

I just purchased a Gold membership and I guess it will take a few days to process. At any rate I cannot access the "for sale" forums to post this the way that I should be doing this.

A while back, I had planned on entering the military and decided to purchase a knife that I could rely on in the field. I decided on the STRIDER BN (unmarked SEAL 2001). It is a fantastic knife and everything I had hoped it would be.

To make a long story short, my wife became pregnant and we are expecting our first - a little boy:D mid January. Consequently, my wife's and my decision about my spending that much time away in the beginning of my son's life, changed 180 degrees. I have a lot of admiration and gratitude for those who do make that sacrifice for us. Up till now, I recognized it, but never truly grasped/appreciated how much they were giving up. So, I'm not going to be in the military and I need to raise some money fast and here's why:

My wife and I are covered by great insurance, but for some reason the anaesthesiologists in our hospital don't support BC/BS so they want a deposit of $500 (Not what I intend to be asking for the knife) up front:eek: to reserve their services in the event that my wife desires/needs an epidural. Unbelievable. So anyway, I need to make these reservations ASAP and though it kills me to do it, selling my knife seems likely to be one of the most expedient ways of doing it. It has been carried on a camping trip and seen the lightest of use - never having even needed resharpening. It still has the original edge. I figured that I would let you guys in on it to get first crack at it. If I have stepped out of line too egregiously by posting this in this forum, please accept my apologies... I'll understand and not be offended if this thread gets deleted. Take it easy, guys!

But would be happy to help your cause. send me an E-mail.........Ira

Congratulations my friend!!!

There is NOTHING better than being a parent.

The Military is full of fine young men; go be the best dad out there.

Humm, this is a crappy rock-and-a-hard-spot deal... and NO, I'm not buying your knife either!
Post your address, I for one, would be happy to send you some relief... many others probably will too.
Yea, I'm putting the squeeze on the rest of you :D
I cant think of a better cause... Can you guys?

Wow! I really don't know quite what to say. Your generosity.... Words cannot truly express the gratitude I feel.

But in all honesty, I cannot in good conscience accept your offers. There are those of us here who are truly in need - and I am very fortunately not one of them. Things ARE a bit tight to be sure, and to lay out $500 cash is far from easy, but it is nothing that we cannot get around. And maybe there is someone out there who will purchase my knife in the near future which will alleviate the situation. And hey, I will still have two other STRIDERs (AR and AD). So I won't be toothless:D

Ira, Mick, Daschunde2, and everyone else out there who have expressed such warm wishes to me - Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I would be grateful for you to keep me and mine in your thoughts and save the money for someone else who might really be in need. I won't forget this.

You guys are the best.
David

David, as I have heard many times, you are in the service for only so many years but you will be a husband and father for the rest of your life. Like Mick said, go and be a good one, it's alot harder than most military training and it consumes alot more time but the rewards are huge. Take care and congatulations. Dean

Congratulations to you and your wife buddy! I've always liked your posts, and once again you've shown that you speak the truth, from the heart. :)

Now that you've 'Gone Gold' your knife will be sold soon enough, but fatherhood is forever...you made the right choice bud, and we all support your position.

Best of luck with your child, and may your pending journey be one of joy!

Mel

Thanks guys... My wife and I are putting "the bag" together this weekend in anticipation of the big day! Only four and a half weeks to go! I appreciate your support and you can bet we are going to be the best parents we can be.:)

By the way... Can you believe it, but my wife has put me on notice that my sense of humor is not welcome in the delivery room?

Women.
:D :p

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said....send me your address DanEHunter@aol.com

My life also took a couple of turns because of my daughter without any regrets. Be the best father you can be and don't stress over the little stuff.

Kampfjaeger, ah sorry to put you in the charity limelight... I took it as a bit of desperation to be selling that knife. Glad to hear your in good shape.

And Congrats! I wish you the best.

Generosity and a spirit of helping others is nothing to apologise for. It was a kind gesture and I was not offended. I am truly grateful for it.

And yes... It does hurt to be selling this knife. It is the nicest large fixed blade I have ever owned and may ever own. But I am comfortable knowing that it will find a good home. And as far as sacrifices are concerned, I count this loss as a small one in exchange for a healthy son and wife.:)
