After reading Richard's post on burl wood, I had a little time out in the woods today and came across a piece.. Went back home for my chainsaw (which needs a major sharpening) and cut this off..

Not much I can use there and its only oak and not really that spectacular, but my point is I never knew these cancer blobs held such kind wood.. Here in Oklahoma we're limited to variety, but if I ever go out of state on one of these get together camp outs guess who's bringing a chain saw:D

My big burl i found, and what it looks like applied
As a profesional tree cutter and new to knife culture, im ashamed to admit at how many of these ended up in my stove or fire pit :barf:

shame about the wasted knife material, but they must have burned forever, lol. agreed, i've been interested in doing my own burl for a while now. love the way yours turned out. and it's got a bit more story to it, which is always nice.

rob, you should cut that up and see what you end up with. you might have enough to make at least 1 knife. make sure to cut it up larger than what you want.

a folding saw might work for smaller ones if you are away from home.
