I miss my ZT 0302...but ;)

I thought it felt too big, but since I've sold it, I miss it, so I'm ready to order another from the one and only Kershawguy...but then I start reading on the ZT 0551, now I don't know what the heck to do.

I know knife preference is a very personal thing, and my knives are a very pedestrian use deal...cutting tape, opening boxes, blah blah blah...but from a quality and general use standpoint I'd love to hear opinions.

...then there's the Spyderco Phoenix and Benchmade Rift on my short list, but that's another story ;)
 
The 0551 screams utility, the 03xx are more like a heavy use field tool. They still work day to day but its kinda like using a 1000hp truck to pick the kids up from school.

I miss my 300 too and wish I never sold it and want another one but the 0551 fits my needs and likes better. Smaller, lighter, just as tough, no recurve, and a great steel, its a limited run too whereas the 03xx is not. Get it while you can!
 
I'm carrying a 0551 right now and it is by far the best ZT I have owned and that is out of three 030x's and two 0200's.
 
I just picked up my 551 from the post office.
I'm very pleased. I'm actually kinda surprised that I like it so much right off the bat. This is clearly a quality unit.
Looks like a backup has to be ordered, just in case.

Well dang...just found out I can't file my taxes until the 19th...that buys me some time lol.
Appreciate the info and advice, there are a more than a few knives I really want at the moment, but the next one is definately between the two ZT's and a Tyrade...any opinions on the Tyrade?
 
The 0300 series is way too heavy for EDC. The 0350 is a great compromise between the shape and feel of the 0300 series.
The 0550 would be my choice if you want the best of the ZT line.

I played with my friend's ZT 30x and it is such a beast. So I settled on the 551. Just waiting on some stock from kershawguy.
 
Just the G10 pattern and the blade steel. Elmax on the Sprint Run 0551 and Vanax 35 on the production model 0550. Price is the same.

I love Tyrades. Big and thick blade but it sits pretty flat in your pocket. It is still pretty heavy but I like to know that my knife is still there. I have a problem with losing lightweight knives.
 
Ok...I got on the 0551 list...and I'm ordering a ZT 0350cb from Dave (kershawguy) tonight.
I want to order one more from to save on shipping...well....Ok, we all know shipping's free...I just want to narrow my wish-list.
...so :)
I need help deciding between a Tyrade (titanium/cf) and a ZT 0301.
Basically, I want both, but want to order whichever is "smarter" to order now as opposed to,say,six months from now...as in will either likely get less available and more expensive by then, or am I pretty safe with either one?

As much as I love my ZT0551, after the "newness" wore off, my ZT0300 is still my favorite. It is a more robust folder IMHO and and if you've ever handled or used the ZT0551, you'll see that is quite a statement. You can't go wrong with either or any of the ZT line really.

I have never handled a 0300, but I cant even imagine a more robust folder than the 0551. Now you have me wanting to check one out just to see.
