I figured that but I have used sandpaper before and it comes out OK but doesnt seem as even. I was just curious as the sandpaper method takes alot of time but a BS would be much much faster.

The beltsander is 100000 times faster but it is a lot easier to screw things up .. especially when you are drunk. . . :foot::foot::foot:

Is there a recurve in it now or is it just the shadow and finish pattern?

That would be my next question ............ ?

I had the same thing happen to a FBM when I took it to a belt sander... Once again .. I blame it on being drunk.. :foot:

I screwed a few up on my belt sander, I was drunk among other things for some of it... and sober too... Ban's going to work out the problem areas on mine. My main problem is/was blunting the tip, a small swedge will bring it back on all of them. I have adjusted my method since the last one I screwed up. Live and learn, then get Banned.

I have straightened the blade on my ss, and convexed it, convexed a folder, and convexed my Ash1CG all by hand on sandpaper/mousepad.

Right now, I am convexing my FBMLE by hand on sandpaper/mousepad (it is going to be a real beast, especially as the v-grind is not perfectly symmetrical, so it will take more work to even it out)

I just bought a Harbor freight 1x30 + 5inch disk combo belt sander for my self. I have not put it together yet, but I don't think I will try and finish the FBMLE convex on it. Don't want to screw it up. I will practice it with home made knives before it touches Infi. I still need to order a leather belt for it so I can power strop with it.

Looks gr8,,,,,,, might polish the spine an belly for a full effect,,,,,,,,, very nice work indeed

Were you moving the handle out from the belt sander as you neared the tip, instead of moving it up to keep the tip/edge perpendicular to the edge?

I have never used a Belt Sander to sharpen a knife yet. I have ground on a blank I was making (using another forum member's 2x72 belt sander).

It is quite the art, and very very easy to screw up. Mistakes happen very fast at that speed, even with high grit belts.

yes guys i used a 1x30inch belt sand to reprofile the edge then
convexed it with sand paper and mouse pad the stroped useing bark river knife and tool compound

that's looking pretty shiny. i convexed mine, but i didn't thin that much of the edge. nice work.
