In going through some old threads I stumbled upon and old pic from Blade Magazine that reminded me of something from my must-have list which was almost forgotten. ;)

Must have it...!!! :D

I made that scan about six years ago (the threads should bear that out)! Amazing how it keeps popping up. I've still got the copy of Blade magazine somewhere.

As one who has collected swords and has some familiarity with them, I might note that 4 pounds for an 18" short sword is extremely heavy and probably very unwieldy. The average single handed Western sword of the period 800 CE through the Medieval period weighed between 2 & 3 pounds and had a blade of some 30 or more inches. The Viking swords were noted for their lightness and quickness, the movie "The Thiteenth Warrior" notwithstanding.

Which might be why it is probably classified as a knife. I've found that shapes, sizes, and even sometimes weights have nothing to do to differentiate between a sword and a knife. It's really all in how that instrament is used.

Okay, so they call it a sword, but if any of them every got used, I'm sure they were used more as utility swords.
Also, because of the steel in the handle, I imagine it's probably well balanced, which is often more important than weight.
