Years ago I bought a knife from a French street market. It was very similar to a sodbuster. The blade took a reasonable edge, it had a good snap when opening and closing the knife, stainless steel, but for some reason I didn't like the thing.
Then I read here about how Sodbusters are so good, better than an Opinel some say (It must be good) better than sliced bread to hear some of you.
Well, I saw one for sale on the Bay. Better give it a try thinks I. It was a Case Sodbuster Jn in stainless. Can't go far wrong with a Case thinks I, so I buy it. It came today.
Think I'm in love :)
Never would have bought one except I trust your judgement on this forum.

Thanks Guys...I owe you one.

The sodbuster is a simple, sturdy pattern, and from what I've seen Case makes some of the best, enjoy your new knife!

Soddies are a great knife. Nice wide thin blade that has geometry for really slicing. Now you have to try one of the Eye-Brand yellow soddies with carbon steel.

Heheh, for all the fancy knives we love that old soddie pattern just grabs us. There is just some deep pleasure in handling and using a no pretense, straightforward tool that just goes about its business competently without a lot of fanfare.

Welcome to the club fellas!

A straitforward tool. You mean like a well blackened cast iron fry pan, a bamboo fishing pole, or a break open shotgun?:)

Yeah, simple is good!

Great pattern from a great company. Of course now you need a full size model and of course you need at least one in cv steel. And then you really need to try a Queen, and then.......Can you see a pattern here. later, ahgar
