Let's see. I called the shop and Jerry just happened to answer the phone. Got into a discusssion with him about the folder. He had a working prototype. Said the action was extremely smooth and the lock up very secure. He said he had also just gotten the new equipment for the folder production but it all needed to be set up and some production details worked out.
That was almost two years ago!!
I can't understand why so many other companies (take Strider for example) can bring a new folder from vision to reality in a relatively short time but Jerry can't, or won't.
Never getting a straight answer about the status of the folder got old after the first year or so. It's now become hugely annoying.
And it seems like some people just play along with this childish game in a very sycophantic way. :barf:
Why can't we get a straight answer Jerry?
(waiting for smart-assed reply)

Darn I was hoping for a thumb stub or a hole opening.

I guess no one hand opening for me.

Harrydog,

I don't know why you expect a smart assed answer, but I will give it a go.

In the short time I have had dealings with Busse Combat, I have had one thing impress me from the beginning.

Jerry Busse does not strike me as a man who just does something for the sake of doing it. Now I do not know the details of the folder's action or locking mechanism, but knowing Jerry, it is going to be something above and beyond what is commonly available to people in the market today. Why do I say this? Well, I reason that if Jerry wanted to throw out a frame lock with a revamped Busse Combat blade profile, he surely would have done so a long time ago. I figure Jerry doesn't want to just make a folder for the sake of making a folder. When it hits the streets, I predict it will be of a design and quality that will stand the cutlery industry on it's ear. Now, only the future will prove my reasoning right or wrong, but I can certainly wait for something new and revolutionary as opposed to just another frame lock, liner lock, etc. type folding knife.

I do sincerely hope that this didn't come off as smart assed. I truly believe in this company and the people who run it. I have to believe that if a folder could have been made years ago while exceeding what is already out there, Jerry would have made it available. Just as with any other company, Busse Combat has to deal with the realities of available technology.

To Jerry I say, I hope that I have not over stepped any boundaries with my reply to this gentleman, but I felt the urge to add my two cents. I did so in the spirit that is common on our forum and not in a accusatory or degrading way.

harrydog, those pics that you see of me holding a folder on
Bad Mojo or here on the Busse site are for REAL, brother!
Look closely at them and you tell me what other type of
folder they are?

One you thing you will notice about many of the Strider folders though (I own and use Striders as well so its not a big slam), is that more then a few people have had issues with the lock sticking too much, or not enough, or blade play, or so much pressure on the blade that it damn near takes two hands to open it, etc, etc... (again, the Strider guys will work with you till you are satisfied though, and make sure you are happy)

I believe this is directly related to how fairly quick they come up with designs, put them into production, and get them out to the customers.

Ive noticed that it is actually hard to find a CRK Sebenza that someone has had a QC issue with. As opposed to the Striders, I think it is because they have had more time to be developed and tested, as well as more time is most likely put into overall fit/finish of each individual knife.

All IMO ofcourse :)

Only time will tell with the Busse folder. ;)

harrydog said (asked?):

"...I can't understand why so many other companies (take Strider for example) can bring a new folder from vision to reality in a relatively short time but Jerry can't, or won't...."

Progunner replied:

"...Now I do not know the details of the folder's action or locking mechanism, but knowing Jerry, it is going to be something above and beyond what is commonly available to people in the market today. I've handled the protoype folder, looked at it in some detail, and received a guided tour of every detail, straight from Jerry--and I'm here to tell you that Progunner's answer is exactly right. It took so long because it is harder to invent the best than follow the rest. The same kind of dogged determination responsible for spending more than a decade, and untold cash resources, inventing INFI steel from scratch instead of settling for the other commonly available steels, has now gone into the creation of this folder. I'm glad he took the necessary time and effort to make a unique folder, better than other widely available options. I wasn't just interested in another option similar to what I can already get from any number of other other high-end makers, or else I would have just gotten one of theirs and been content with my folder.

At Blade West, he showed the folder to Dark Nemesis, RVO3VOM, Buy Brown, Survivor, Bravado, Spearhead, Knightstar, Tyuio, myself, and several others. A few of us even got to handle it, and were shown its features. This is unprecedented, shows that a working prototype really exists, and is a strong indication that the folder is really coming, and it really is relatively soon. He told me the intended release date (which I won't repeat, because he asked me not to), but--even accounting for predictable delays--it's not that far off.

P.S. Look through my postings from the last 2 or 3 weeks; I've given more information about the folder--as much as I may.

Am i too late to give a smart ass reply? No? Good.

For all you people that are sick of waiting for the folder that's too bad. You are going to have to wait till jerry makes more cause i'm not giving mine up either. ;) :p :D

P.S. Oh yeah i almost forgot there is no folder. ;)

I've stopped waiting. I got on the list in 1999.

When and IF it happens I'll have a look-see.

What folder?

Hey Harrydog, don't believe these guys for a second! They're just joshin' you! When I spoke to you a couple of years ago I was just pullin' your leg too. I didn't think for a second that you took me seriously. Sorry about that. Between you and I, all I had at the BLADE Show West was a Pakistani folder with a re-profiled blade. These guys will fall for anything. Bravado held it up for the pic and he still thinks it's real!!! You gotta love these guys. . . they are the biggest jokers on the net. Evolute is killin' me, and he won't stop!!!!

Thanks again for your inquisitive post Harrydog and for expressing the genuine pain and suffering you have had to endure for these past 2 years. I hope you are able to someday get past this dark period that I have brought on through my inability to know when a joke has gone far enough. ;)

Hope all is well,

Jerry

(BTW, I am lovin' watching you guys try to convince people that the Busse folder is real! Welcome to my world! ;) )
