I NEED TO GET A NEW KNIFE!!

I cant buy an identical one to the one i lost, that knife was kind of "sacred"

I carried it everywhere..
And a another one will never be the same...
I want to try single blade this time

I imagine that a folding tanto would be nice, i'm asking you if you know any in the priceclass <$40 that is tough and reliable
and is razor sharp, i think the tanto point would be nice to cut small things with.

I appreciate all help I can get

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
Knives are very expensive in Norway due to high taxes (VAT 24% believe it or not!!).

I can make one example: Smith and Wesson SWAT costs about $35, right? in Norway it costs 700NOK, that would be about $75-80 in the US...

You may be better off trying to pick up a NIB example off the for sale Forums. I have seen many Benchmade Emerson CQC7s there lately for around $50-$60. Columbia River and Cold Steel both offer hard working tanto folders in your price range. Just some ideas.

Just a thought.

Your Explorer was a very good general purpose knife...

A Tanto blade is very specialized, and is usually found on "tactical" blades. I personally don't think they are as useful for day to day carry as a more convential blade style.. However, if you want to attack a car door, rumor has it they are good for that.

If you still really want a tanto blade, I have a mint (never sharpened) Benchmade CQC7 (the smaller size) knife I'll be glad to sell you. It just gathers dust in my drawer...

Francis

I'd agree with blademan 13, keep an eye on the For Sale forums. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a plain-edged Spyderco of any size. They're GREAT knives. As far as the transaction goes, create a PayPal.com account for yourself and pay the seller that way. I've had a few transactions with other knife knuts via the For Sale forums and every single one has been honest and easy to deal with.

Try the Spyderco Endura or Delica. These will be available in your price range at just about any on-line site.

I gotta say that the For Sale/Trade: Individual Forum is where you ought to be. Lots of good stuff in there for good prices. And most people are a downright pleasure to deal with.

Funny FrancisB mentioned the CQC7 gathering dust in the drawer. That's exactly what mine did the entire time I owned it. Excellent knife if you are looking for a tanto point and chisel grind though. You should take him up on it.

Just thought I would let everyone know that Smokey Mountain Knifeworks has the Rookie and Standard on special again.
The Rookies are $39.99 and the part # is SPC51GS

The Standards are $42.99 and the part number is SPC05GS

The phone number for SMKW is 1-800-251-9306

I am not affiliated in any way with SMKW. Just got a sales flyer and thought I would pass the word along.

These are excellent knives. ATS-55, G-10. They are a bargain at this price.

The lightweigt Spydercos are great. Especially the Native. I wouldn't rule out another SAK either. Better yet, get both.

Check out the M16 by CRK&T. It is available in a tanto, and is quite inexpensive.
By the way welcome to the Forums. The more the merrier.

I understand your plight regarding the high cost of knives in Norway. Jeg også bor her.

I have seen a number of the smaller Benchmade knives in Norwegian shops for approximately the price you are looking at - 700 - 800NOK. I personally carry a Benchmade mini - stryker, which has a tanto shaped blade that I find pretty useful.

CKRT (Columbia River Knife and Tool) also makes a number of nice small and large folders with stout points. Most of their knives fall into the price range you are looking at.

SOG also has a distributor in Norway, and some of their lower price knives are still quite good, such as the autoclip series.

I would in general say that CKRT is as inexpensive a knife as I would go to, as they seem to have exceptional control over their Taiwanese manufacturer. I am not so convinced with some of the others.

Good luck!
