I recently got a CUDA MAXX.
I LOVE big folders! However, I've gotten used to tip-up carry knives like my D2 AFCK which I've become very fast with using my index finger in the right side of the hole as it clears my pocket. I can go from my hand on my belly to having the knife open and in front of me in a ready-to-work position and grip in less than a second. I like having that ability for a variety of (obvious to this forum) reasons.;)
I wish. I wish. I wish I could be as fast with my nice, big Cuda Maxx!

A nice guy sold it to me and told me HIS technique, but I still can't get it anywhere near a second. I've read on this forum that there a LOT of fans of this knife and a LOT of people have bragged about the speed of this knife into deployment.

So, let's have it! What's the trick? Please share.

Well, if you cant figure out a technique, you might see about having the clip tapped to carry tip up, and then it waves as you pull it out.

Hello,

My techinque works pretty fast for me, but explaining it might be hell ( non-native english speaker) :D

OK here goes :

I grab the pivot pin with my thumb and index finger ( this results in you hand above the knife and the knife dangling under your hand). If you do this fast enough, you can allow the knife to position itself in your palm (simply rotate your wrist downwards). Then I allow my finger to get a hold on the clip, while my index finger get's a grip on the flipper. then a slight push of the index finger and a slight move of the wrist and voila.

The way I describe it sound like slow motion, but I can do the whole thing in one grab-your-knife-move, and I am under one second (hand starting in cowboy duel position ). Besides being relatively fast, it is also pretty impressive because this way you show the full length in a flash and everyone will thing that it's and automatic, if they don't run off screaming :D .

The wave works too, except that I wear pretty loose pants from time to time and then the wave defenitely doesn't work well except for destroying pants pockets.

Greetz and take care, Bart.

thats how i do mine bart, w/the right technique and practice ya can open them about as fast as a axis BM, and close to a waved EKI, though the wave is better of course imho.

my DDR custom mini maxx is so smooth ya can do this MUCH faster, i wanna get a maxx 5.5 custom, i bet they are awesome!!

OK. I'll try that for a few days and see how it goes. Thanks a lot.

I'm not a big fan of the Wave. It's a COOL invention, but not reliable in my opinion. That is - it doesn't open reliably in all my pants all the time. I prefer a technique that works the same regardless.

P.S. One cool thing about the Wave is if you take a right-handed knife and put it toward the front of your left pocket and then draw and Wave it off the front of the pocket into a reverse grip. Not very functional and it jabbs your leg when you sit down, but it looks cool.

I have good luck with my tip-down AFCK by pulling it out with my thumb on the handle (near the hole) and my index finger over the clip with middle finger just down the handle a bit. A quick flick of the wrist then provides a very fast inertial opening. Not exactly sure how this would relate to the Cuda Maxx, but it might be worth a try.

When you pull the Maxx out of your pocket and push the flipper forward to open it, you can feel the detent slow it down. I grab it high enough up that my ring finger is at the dip toward the end of the clip. Then if you push the bladeside flipper forward at the same time pushing the backside flipper back, it will open more quickly and smoothly.

I lucked into a great deal on a custom 5.5 Madd Maxx dagger, which is so smooth it doesn't matter how you open it. But the CUDA Maxx is satisfyingly close to the original, especially for the price. :)
