Hey fellas - I'm looking for a knife that will serve me well while on the beach. The tasks I'll use it for will range from food prep, cord cutting, etc. normal knife stuff. It'll also be tucked in my waste band for work outs on the beach.

I'd like a blade that is 3 inches long with a full handle if possible. Oh - and it has to be a folder. I've already got a FB I need for the beach.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks KN - I've checked out all the H-1 models. I was hoping for some suggestions of something other than Spyderco. I don't know of anyone else using H1 though.

Spyderco Salt I if you want a point, Atlantic Salt if you prefer sheepsfoot. Both are available in either plain edge or serrated, both are totally rustproof.

+1 on that if they are going to get salt water exposure.

On the other hand, I walk on the beach with a carbon steel folder in my pocket all the time and never have corrosion problems.

It'll see a fair amount of water otherwise I'd do the same thing as you and just use one of my other folders. Plus this gives me a good reason to buy a knife :D even though I said I wouldn't

i'd get something that wo'nt break your heart if you lose it. a beach will " eat" anything you drop. i know. :D

Wow - never heard of them or the blade material. Cool site, thanks.

Here's the review that sparked my interest.

I love my Salt, but the Boye seems to hold an edge longer and is a breeze to sharpen.
Why not buy both? ;)

Awesome pics - thanks

I like the blade of the Boye a lot, the blade is just a bit straighter and I like that. The spyderco looks to have a much more ergonomic handle though.

Great looking knife - I'll shoot you my address so you can ship me over some $$ to get that sucker ;)

Try the David Boye Cobalt folder. It cuts all day and even cuts when it feels dull! Easy to sharpen with a regular stone. GOOD LUCK! Kevin :D I see they are running a special for $99! You cant beat that price!

Another vote for the Spyderco Salt series. H1 is truly a rustless steel. The Boye folders are also rustless, but a little bit more expensive.

Benchmade's X-15 steel is more stainless then most, but it will rust. The only advantage is a slight edge holding win over H1.

David Boye is a well-known names in custom knives. He wrote a book on knife making that has been in print for several years. I think he is pretty highly highly regarded in the knife business.

I wouldn't mind having one of those dendritic cobalt folders just for the novelty factor.
