I made this sheath for another maker - but I want some feedback on the finish.

I have always loved the look of a worn saddle or sheath. The natural look that is broken in and looks like it has been used but still looks strong. I have been working to recreate that look without compromising any of the strength in a sheath. I think I have done that with this sheath and treatment - but I want your feedback.

Specs for those into that sort of thing:

3/16th Inch Welt width
Double hand stitching
Stitching reversed at the opening and bottom four holes for great security
Welt shelf (to stop the knife from being over inserted),
8-10 ounce Wicket and Craig leather (Veg tanned and made in America).
3 or 4 coats of Montana Pitch Blend.
Removable Dangler
Both belt loops can handle a 2 inch belt.

I would love feedback...

I think that look is fantastic. I'm usually a black sheath guy, but if I had to be brown, I would want that rawhide coloring as my preference. Very simple but effective design, I love danglers.

The last sheath I finished, I gave it a few coats of Lexol to preserve and darken the leather, then buffed it liberally with a boot brush that was fairly heavily loaded with black boot polish, from polishing boots and other black sheathes. I rubbed it lightly with 0000 steel wool to scuff the surface a bit and buffed it again the same brush.

This might be a bit more distressed looking than you're wanting, but it might give you some ideas.

I like it Tal. Looks like a Texas suntan with a little something else. Care to share the secret?:D

Double stiching looks good, That's one of, if not my very favorite design. Color is good but I usually go a little darker. How about adding a grommet to the bottom so a body could tie it off on a leg. Or even just a small piece of leather about an inch long stitched down on the ends so some cordage could pass through for a tie off.

That looks nice and aged Tal.

I do prefer this look myself, although with the scandi-style I tend to make, and the light leather I use, I've yet to successfully get this look without it appearing grubby.

You do great work dude.

I agree Scruff - that was my challenge. It was easier than I thought when I found the solution.

This may be something I offer from time to time.

Thanks yall - I thought I had it right - but I wanted to check.

It sold in a day - so - Obviously I didn't screw it up too bad!

I think that has the elegance of simplicity in the design. I also really like the finish.

This one sold quick.

I will be making a few more for some fiddlebacks this week. Keep eyes open - hopefully one with next Friday's batch.
