I did some searching around here and could not find the answer to my question so here goes.......

I picked up an A2T Ratchet recently, it needs a little sharpening and I have never sharpened a Hatchet before. At my disposal I have a sharpmaker, an Edge Pro Apex, a ceramic hone, and some Japanese water stones. Are there any tricks to sharpening one of these? The curved convex edge has me stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a video on sharpening larger conventional hatchets with a file while stuck in a jig.... trying that on the Ratchet does not look like a good idea.

I have never sharpened a hatchet but I have the Sharpmaker and the Edge Pro Apex as well....

I would personally start off with a coarse grit on the Edge Pro if you need to reprofile the edge... then work your way up to a finer grit, then finish it off with the Sharpmaker set at 40 degrees. Use magic marker on the edge to see where you are taking steel so it will be uniform between the Edge Pro and the Sharpmaker.

Hope this helps.
