Dear Forumites and friends,

I'm presently in the process of helping Edutsi Yvsa's wife Barb identify and value his collection.
These two models have me a bit stumped. If any of you can find a reference to them or just name them, it would be a big help to me and in turn her. You will have our gratitude if you are able to help.

I have no idea what they are worth, but that second one really calls to me. I'd love to see some HI versions of it.

From what i understand both of these were possibly one time knives, very limited.
Both may have been the only examples made. They are both definately H.I.

Yvsa bought the bottom one as a Blade only, no handle, left kind of as forged iirc. He fitted his own handle and sheath. I tried to order a blade like it, but was told that it was a no go. I guess there were to many complications for a Blade only order to do any more. . . In other words, the Steel is H.I. the Handle and sheath are all Yvsa. :)

As for the top one, It stirs a memory or two, but I can't place the model or even how to look. I can say this, It's old, Pre 2004 old. Sometime between 2002 and 2004 We lost the Sharki [sheath maker - hope I spelt it correctly] who was doing the tooled sheaths. After he left, no more tooled sheaths. At least thats how I remember it. Jake or one of the other old hands can clear it up for us. . . . By the way, I have an H.I. So old that it doesn't have a tooled sheath. One of the first H.I. Ever did, probably from back when Kami Sherpa was buying the best of the best that other shops could make before he opened his shop. . . . My guess is, #1 is from 2000 to 2002. But it could be from the late 90's. Just a guess though do to the sheath and knife being familure in some way.

Is the top one the first of the YCS prototypes? I know that a few were made before the final design was settled on.

Heber's right, Yvsa made the bottom knife. He ordered the blade with a forged finish, complete with the custom heart-shaped cho that you see. I don't know if you have it in hand, but that knife is his take on the "Balance" model.

To further clarify, Uncle Bill and HI offered bare blades for a short time. Few people took advantage of the opportunity; I guess everyone realized that making a khukuri, complete with scabbard is not an easy project. Yvsa was one who had the requisite skills, and the khukuri above is the result.

I was able to find the old thread Uncle Bill started to showcase this knife. Unfortunately the picture links no longer work, but hopefully it should shed some light on this unique khukuri.

Thank you, Kamagong! I bet ya, dollars to donuts, thats one his dear Barbie is gonna wanna keep....

That top blade looks like either a hatchet in knife form, or the meanest slicer in history, depending on the width.
