I'm likin' the Sar 5. The BATAC is cool, but a little pudgy looking. The SJTAC is nice. The prices on those two shy me away as I'm trying to put a little bit away for a bigger blade again down the road.
Is the Sar the winner? Looking for something small than a FSH but can still hold it's own on a day hike and what not.
I suppose it is, it's what it's made for after all...
Did I just make up my own mind?

According to the BossHog himself the SFNO is going to be re-released very soon. Maybe that would be an option for you.

I just got one yesterday so I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but some initial observations for you. It's heavy duty. A lot thicker and heavier than it looks in pictures! I think this blade could stand up to a lot, although being a "search and rescue" designed knife, that's a good thing! Yes, the handle is a little chunky, but it still feels good in my hand. I also got a SARSquatch yesterday, and it's definitely based on that design. Easy to find pants for, MashedCat has them in stock and ready to go.
I got the sheath yesterday as well after ordering it on Monday. Great fit if you don't already have some of their work. All in all, it looks very promising for an "all-around" knife. You won't be sorry if you decide on one, and the prices are right on the exchange!

Mike, can I trouble you when you have a sec for an in-the-hand pic with the SAR?
Thanks!
The SFNO would be nice, but a bit larger than what I'm looking for.

I don't have any handy yet, I'll try to take a couple tomorrow. I did find a few HERE to tide you over though.

Here you go. These are not the best but should be helpful. Just so you know the SarSquatch and the SFNO are nearly identical in blade length and handle size.

I bought this one becasue I never thought the SFNO would ever come back around, but with the pending release I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not.

Excellent, thanks gents! The Sar is on the 'for sure' list. SFNO or SarQ though....
There's a nice orange and black one on the 'bay.

The Tank would be a great choice. I hardly if ever see them on sale through the forum
or Ebay though...

Skinny ASH from the company store. Available and not too big. Or hold out for the SFNO, although with out knowing the specs yet, it may be about as big as a FSH.

I had a standard ASH and while it was great, it just wasn't too my liking. Too much belly perhaps.

I guess it depends on what you're comparing to, but even the skinny ASH isn't what I'd consider a "mid" sized Busse. Maybe compared to the BM, of course....

I snapped some in-hand pics of the SAR 5 this morning and a couple with bigger brother.

So far, for me, the SARSquatch is one of my favorite knives. It feels really good in my hand, is light, and tough as nails, and it looks really good to boot. So far, the SAR series are my favorites from Busse. I like them so much because they aren't as over the top as alot the other knives. and they are super practical, no crazy beak on the pommel or anything like that, they are all function and they still dang good!

I also really like the ASH, mine is an LE, and it's a sweet knife. I hope you find the one you're looking for
