Hello, Venerable Hogs,
I would really like to find out a little more about the earliest BMs. I have a few specific questions.
1) Were there smooth handled BMs in 1/300? If not, were they made before the 300 or what's the story? (All the smoothies are all clipped point as far as I can tell)
2) Can someone tell me a little more about history of the Wedding Knife? I especially would like know about the Jerry had to fend off the dogs. Were they poodles or rottweilers, or what? etc....
3) Were there any non-slotted pins produced? Besides the limited editions, that is.
4) What happened before the 300 BMs, how many were produced and what did they look like.
5) What's the story with the full clip point BMs? How many were made?
6) The catch-all question - What else can you tell me about the early days of BMs?
Thanks, Uber-Hogs! and happy holidays.

7) Where there any A2 smooth bolt fastener BMs?

I've never heard of a A2 BM,,,but if there ever was one , you can rest assured that MR SKUNK has it :jerkit: :D

First for Solstice: No A2 Mistresses out there, Jerry was full into INFI when the Mistress mader her debute. :D

The mighty "300" were the first 300 Mistresses that Jerry made. iirc the limiteds came later. The first 300 were full clip points, of which a hundred or so were near sharp, and the rest were flat topped? A better historian will correct me on that, my speciality is the Hearts anyhow. :o

Smooth handled BM's werent limited to the 300, again iirc, like the SHSH, there seems to be a number of variations though with all kinds of grooves and swells.

Slotted and non slotted bolts seem rather erratic, there doesnt seem to be a particular time period that these are used, I have older modes with slots, and newer ones with smooth bolts, would make an interesting study eh?

the rest is up to the more age challenged oinkers, I'm still a piglet. :p

actually they were only 6 of the sharper swedge SHBM's made besides the 300 with the regular swedge.

I missed the chance at one and could have got it at a steal at the time,,,but didnt have the money

yep,,it really hurt me missing out on that deal,,,because the same fellow had a SHSH "Ghost"(1 of 5 ), that he had a Helluva price on :( :(

The first 300 have a special history.

There are four swedges possible.

Two different flat top with partial false sharpenings, narrow and wide top.

False sharpened.

Sharpened.

My notes indicate a phone coversation with Jerry saying there was concern at the time of what knives were legal where, so most had the 45 degree or so angle cuts To give a false sharpened apearance but a flat top.

There were also some made that were sharpened.

This leaves a few that were false sharpened, Jerry told me most of those were Satin finished, not coated, with six or less being False sharpened and coated.

I only know of one person having both the Battle Mistress(False sharpened-Coated) and the Straight Handled Satin finished Steel Heart Known as a "Ghost" Busse, I sold him that Battle Mistress before I found out how rare it was for the same price as all the others I sold him( He "Liked" Straight Mistress's)

The first 300 were also early on in INFI heat treat development, and were listed on the Busse Flyer at a little harder than the later INFI knives.

As the first INFI knives the first 300 Busse Battle Mistress's were in a class of their own performance wise with nothing else coming even close to the now legendary edge retention in soft materials.

That made quite a splash in the knife world at the time.

There is lots more to say, some of it is for Jerry to say, or to say it is "ok" to say.

I do not type well or fast, and this is kind of long for me,,,,and I am lazy, so that is all for now

If I am not mistaken the hardness was dropped by about 2 points. And I Jerry did this, he didn't do it to lower the performance, he did it to increase overall performance. Also the old hardness was somewhere in the 62 range. The new hardness is near 60 I would guess.

But no one changes parameters for the worse and especially not a company like Busse, so I would bet that there had to be some issues at the higher hardness that caused Busse to lower the hardness on later models. Which makes sense on hard use knives. Rc of 60 is still very high.

Cobalt,

I in no way said the difference in hardness was worse,,,,Silly.

Just that is was early in the INFI age.

A little less hard means no chipping,,,just rolling on the edge, steel back to sharpness easier.

I know why, I know when and I know how,,,,But these are all Jerry's stories to tell not mine.

Try to read what I Write about Busse knives with rose colored glasses,,I do.

I am and have been a big fan of Busse knives from the end of the last Century or so.

Look back at what I have written in the last six years,,,neve have I had a harsh or unkind word about Busse's Knives, I am an enthusiastic fan :D

OH, the HUMANITY. I just finished reading your quote here, OMG, the humanity

as mick strider would say, you know it's Friday and the drinking starts so..

Cobalt,

I am pretty sure I wrote something about the "Last" Century,,,,you know,,,The 20th??

Back when we partied like it was 1999,,,,,,because it "Was" 1999.

And INFI was new,,,,and the only way it could be explained was that it had to be magic to do what it claimed to do!!

All I thought about that was "Cool, a Magic knife"

Edited to add,,,Oh, I see how it is,,,,I just re-read the so called quote,,,sneaky outof context
But at least a partial quote.

A funny guy.

I am careful about what I write,,,I have had Jerry mad at me in the past,,,and I try to avoid it here, we may fight on the phone or email from time to time, but we pretty much get along here because I am a fan of the knives.

I'm just funnin ya. Haha, keep on writting I always like learning more about the knives. I just had to poke,

Hey you wanna see the Krispy Kream Calendar Girls??

Cobalt,

Funny is good.

I just want to be able to continue to post here,,,and IF I say the wrong thing I could loose this priviledge (Spelling)

I got lots of humor,,,,Weird humor,,,,but humor none the less.

At some point I will tell the joke about the Mean Street the Uncle Henry folder and the Tilly hat, that met at the bottom of the lake.
