I need a new sheath.

I love my 15 inch sirupate but the sheath is very cumbersome when it comes to hiking/trail blazing. Although the traditional sheath has its cool factor, it tends to get in the way a lot of the time. I know Steely Guns has one and I really want one too. I was so close to buying a esee junglas but then I realized how much more awesome my sirupate is. I know it is a tiny blade in the khukuri world but it is a super functional blade. The weight is just right too... fairly light weight but strong enough to chop down trees 5-6 inches in diameter. This is the perfect backpacking companion but I am craving a more functional and light weight sheath. I am too busy/lazy to do it myself. How can I accomplish this without becoming broke in the process?

You could check with any local knife shops and see if there is anyone that they would recommend locally if you don't want to ship it. I did this and was given the name of a local custom knife maker that also does kydex work and the price when I talked to him was around 40 to 50 to get one made

If the fund raising sheaths aren't custom enough for you, you might contact Heber (Wildmanh) and see what he can do for you. I dunno if he has a 15" Siru, but I know he understands that angles of khukuris better than most sheath designers. You might be able to say that the blade is X long and Y wide etc, and Heber might be able to craft you something pretty nice.

Or if that doesn't work for you, and you don't mind an Uber UGLY one, the next time I hit up the leather store I could craft you one based off my 15" Siru and hopefully leave enough wiggle room for it to accommodate your knife. It might be a few weeks before I go again as it is out of town, and I was just there Saturday. However, the cost would just be the materials. Maybe $20 if that.

I'm not a professional or even quasi talented, but my sheaths do tend to be thinner than the traditional scabbard.

...but I would contact Heber first;) I have one of his sheathes for my Fiddleback Woodsman, and it is impeccable.

I also noticed that you have Kydex as the sheath header. I DO have a sheet of Kydex to experiment with if you are interested in being a Guinea pig. I bought it to try an make a holster for my 1911, but I ended up going back to my comfort zone and finishing a leather kit instead:o
I might have some time next weekend to cobble together a very rough and dirty sheath out of kydex and some scavenged parts if you can't find something you like.

Once again, I'd check out the Medical fund sheaths first or contact Heber if you require something a little more custom fit:p

Derek, aren't the 15" Sirupati's great? Theres a lot of knives that I have not bought or don't use much now, because I have a 15" Sirupati. I've carried on a few backpacking trips where weight was a concern, but I still wanted a good chopper just in case. They've never let me down.

Others have steered you in the right directions. I won't clutter Yangdu's corner of Bladeforums with an ad, But I will say this, my contact info is in my signature, if you want to talk. ;)

Qeth, those are some good looking sheaths that he made you! :)

Thanks!

I'd also llike to add the Heber made me a sheath for a Chit Bowie, I gave him specs, not the knife. Sheath came in and fit perfectly.
