I need a new folder for utility use and if I get in trouble for defense use.
Any suggestions?
I think a Starmate or a Cuda is a good deal.
What do you think of a Civilian g10 for defense use only?
Price ranging: not over 140 bucks!
Thanks for every reply!!

PS: We have no carry limit in Germany

The Sifu is the current king of the hill, bar none. It's big, and really needs a belt sheath, but there's none finer. It's only a hair over your price range.

The upcoming SOG Pentagon Elite holds promise, with a 5" blade and a modern lockwork. AUS8 steel is OK for a fighter, not so good for daily serious utility use...although SOG has a reputation for good heat-treats on steel most people consider marginal (440A). See the SOG forum for pics and some commentary.

I'd agree with Jim on the Sifu, but you can get them for less than $140... They're about $125 at Knife Outlet and $120 at Discount Knives.

My choice is made in your own Fatherland, the Boker models #2054, 2055 and 2056 the first two are G10 the last is cocobolo. These are smooth as silk openers and well fitted well designed knives. I have two right now, I got one to customize and I liked it so much I got one to keep.

Of course, the Sifu is a great knife but its really hard to find one here!
I think it would be much more expensive then 140 bucks when get one from USA (shipping is over 30 Dollars) !
What do you think about a Reckat Carnivour?
Ive heard its a great tool.

The Carnivore is awesome, very comfortable handles, very cecure in the hand. Feels great in reverse grip also. Definately a great defensive knife that would do fine for utility work. The starmate would also be at the top of my list. Great design, great steel (440V), and Spyderco has perfected the liner lock on this one (and the military). I would also suggest the Spyderco Wegner. About the best ergonomics around. They are readily available, and rock solid. As far as defense, the Wegner was going to be chosen as the official Gunsite knife.

I'm feeling a little deja vu here, but I'll cast my vote again for the Benchmade 710HS. Super strong axis lock, M2 tool steel blade with the corrosion resistant BT2 coating, and nicely contoured black G-10 handles all for around $130 U.S. I don't know what that translates to in DMs (or is it Euros now?

), but around these parts it's a package that's tough to beat.

!!!!!!!!!COLD STEEL VANQUERO GRANDE!!!!!!!!!!
COLD STEEL produces the strongest knives at the most competitive prices

My personal vote would have to be for the Benchmade 910SBTCG, its a full sized stryker with a right handed chisel grind.

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

Do anyone know how much I will pay for a Sifu shipped to Germany?
When I see the Sifu first time, I think it must be very difficult to fight with one cause of the fingergrooves. What did you think?
What about a civilian? I would pay 100$- good deal for a defense tool?

I absolutly dont know what I should buy

Odin, the Sifu is some knife, but I don't like the finger grooves. It doesn't feel right in my hand. I would go with the Benchmade 710 HS; great steel and great lock. You won't be disappointed.

I think your original inclinations are pretty much on the mark. The Starmate would be an excellent choice for all-around usage. And the Civillian is a scary example of a purely defensive folder. My personal preferences do not include any REKAT products because of quality issues; but many other forum members like them. Opinions are like......

Odin :

I need a new folder for utility use and if I get in trouble for defense use.

For heavy duty use, I would seriously consider the new Strider-Buck folder. It is coming out at $190, at bit over your limit, but if you can get $140, you can get an extra $50. I would bet that it would be worth the wait.

Boker/Brend Tactical. all the way baby!!!

I used and carried a Boker Brend (cocobolo) for 3 days, enjoying the warmth and strenth of the thing UNTIL both scales came loose and the knife itself cut rope very poorly. OK, so I'm used to serrations, but this knife was very disappointing.
My current carry is a Spyderco Military and I think this or the Starmate would make you a very happy man.
As far a the Civilian is concerned, I think its more of a one use lifesaver than a user, purely cause the tip looks so fragile and you'd want to leave it factory sharp. Also doesn't survive being dropped very well.
There you have it - Military (huge pedigree and performance) or Starmate (same, with the beauty of Terzuola's involvement)

How did you get 30 USD for shipping?? I never paid more than 10 USD. And yes, get the Axis (RDT is selling one on For sale forum)

I'd choose the Sifu...I guess it depends on how your hands fit the finger grooves...my hands happen to fit really nicely into them thus making the knife very manuverable and quick in my hand while affording a very secure grip. The size is something I like too...it's big and yet easy to carry in a pocket or inside the waistband. A great fighter...I would definitely rely on mine if if had to get busy.

I have got a pentagon elite and it is awsome!! It has a very strong blade,it is aggressive and has the most positive opening and locking action i have ever saw.Just try to open one: it's almost like a switchblade.
Definitely the best knife i have ever had.
Greetings from Italy!
