I carry the victorinox swisstool horizantally on my belt and in the past year I've worn thru 3 of those cheap blackie collins sheaths that academy sales and it looks like I'm gonna be getting a forth before long. I was wondering if anybody had some suggestions for a really good sheath that wouldnt fall apart with hard use.

I've just got the maxpedition sheath. I have the double one as I'll be carrying a torch as well. I thought some pics of it with my swiss tool would be good for you

The sheath fits it very well as you can see. It doesn't move about as much as the origonal one does which is very nice. It does stick out a touch more but it doesn't cause any trouble. You can take the lid off and I would still trust it for vertical carry but not the horizontal carry. The strapts for horizontal carry won't allow for a hug belt but will take a 1.5inch belt no problem. I think it looks really silly without the lid and I don't have a problem with making a bit of noise when I get it out. (I'm using it for first aid cover where we have utility belts with most kit on). one thing I don't like are huge labels and though the sheath has one it's on the strap so it's not visable whilst wearing it. the double one does curve a bit and the wrong way to fit your body but this wont be a problem with the single one. For EDC I wouldn't really want a double one due to the weight and the tripple one is out of the question (maybe a single and double so you can have the weight spead out more)
Any multitools that are much shorter the the swiss tool might be a bit difficult to get out but you could always pad out the bottom.

I'll move this thread to the multi-tool forum for you; I think you're likely to have better luck there.

Here is an Idea maybe you will like it:
I just started today using my swisstool on a Fobus Glock single magazine pouch it fits exactly, it provides good pressure for the tool. I use a 9mm/.40 Glock magazine pouch and I will try with a pouch for the .45 1911 single stack pouch maybe it will fit better,
I been using my fobus holster daily for more than 3 years now and these are in good shape. I will post pictures soon.

Spec Ops Super Sheath!, You can get it in a single or double pouch! Not to expensive either!

You could call and see if they'd put horizontal loops on their "Leatherman Utility sheath". I'm sure they'll do it, but don't know about added cost or how long the wait would be. I have the vertical one with fastex buckle, and it's very well made--thicker material and better stitching than my double Super sheath from Spec Ops(which I've gotten very good service from over the last few years, but is about worn out). It's a perfect fit for the LM ST200, which is the same length as the SwissTool. Think I paid $15, which was a great price, though they ream you a little on shipping.
Being custom built, you could choose from a few different colors or camo patterns. The fastex buckle is the deal maker, IMO. No more noisy velcro to get gunked up or wear out, or snaps that are easy to accidentally disengage.
If you like velcro, that TAD sheath looks very nice, though.

I like to work on leathercraft projects as a hobby, and I recently bought a Tandy Leather Company multitool sheath kit for less than $10 on sale, which allowed me to sell my Leatherman Wave sheath on ebay for $20 - ha ha ha...

I like the Tandy sheath because it includes a belt/pocket CLIP rather than a belt loop as with most other multitool sheaths. NOTE: the kit was designed to fit a tool the dimensions of the old PST, so it needs some modification to fit a Wave.
