im looking for a knife that i can take out in the woods and really thrash on ie batoning, chopping. i would like to get it for about $120 US (prefferably including postage) or less coz i live in australia and the conversion rate is crap. any suggestions for a knife would be great!!thanks

I believe Scrapyard Knives has a new knife out for a very reasonable price.

Every Scrapyard knife I've ever had (that's quite a few) has been extremely stout. It would definitely meet your need.

Just Google Scrapyard Knives and away you go.

why not check out the Ka-Bar Becker BK2, BK7, or BK9. Its a very stout line of thick steel. All of the avove are under $75us.

RAT Cutlery. Depending on what length you're looking for the RC-4 or RC-6 would handle almost anything you could throw at them.

Seconded on the RAT Cutlery.

There was an RC-4 for sale here recently. Price was $ 80 shipped, but the seller didn't indicate if he would ship to Oz or not.

F0r that price on a quality fixed blade.

RAT or Scrapyard. Great companies either way, doubt you'd have any trouble at all.

The scrapyard will be a bigger knife, 6-10" the RAT will be 4-6" so depending on size.

Welcome to BF. If you want a really cheap knife to abuse, maybe try a Kabar Heavy/short bowie. Great company, good ole 1095 steel, and won't break the bank. They run about $50 here in the US.

Take a look at the Ontario's OKC Ranger Series knives. You'd probably like the RD with 5 to 9 inch blades depending on your likes. And if you're looking for something more compact the Afghan is a good solid knife also from the same "Ranger series".

If you don't like any of the other suggestions, the Buck Nighthawk is a real bargain and the knifetests.com guy beat the absolute snot out of one before it broke. It's probably less than $60 US if you shop around.

Mora knives are cheap, sturdy, and will take a beating. I got mine for $10 brand new off of ebay. If you break it you will have plenty of money to get a new one.

RTAK?

I've beaten the hell out of this thing and it pulls through every time. The edge has chipped a few times, but nothing bad and nothing that didn't easily sharpen out.
