I need a screw... Literally.

Hello all,

This is going to sound dumb, but last February I got my new Schrade SCH104L, outstanding piece by the way; carried it for a while, played with it, admired it, showed it to my coworkers, etc. Well, today while I was stropping it, noticed a screw missing from the blade stop stud next to the blade pivot. I thought I lost it while I was working on it but could not find it anywhere. Then I remember I took pictures of my collection a while back, checked it and sure enough the screw was already missing. I've been checking different knife parts sites but the thing is I don't know what number screw I need. The length is .25" the diameter at the threads is .09", the head is .22" in diameter, it is a t-9 torx, but I cannot tell how many threads per inch. I think I counted 10 threads in .20" which is the length of the threaded part. So I was wondering if someone here would know where I can look for a replacement. I emailed Taylor Brands today, but I doubt they'll be of much help since these knives are made overseas.
If I can't find one, I'm thinking of buying a new set of studs and matching screws and replace them all. We'll see.
Thank you all,
Cesar.

Shoot Schrade an email you may get lucky and they may tell you what you need or send you the part. Worst that can happen is they say no, or won't tell you anything.

The big home centers have a panel with screw threads and nut sockets mounted in the hardware aisle with the nuts and bolts. If there is more than one screw of that type, you can take it there for comparison, or find a replacement.

I have a similar problem with an EDC folder that lost a screw that attaches a scale. Fortunately, I can remove a neighboring screw and take it around to in-town stores hoping that they carry very small torx screws.

I checked online and unfortunately the sources I checked are *very* expensive for one or two tiny screws...

Thus, I'm hoping someone will post a link or two to an affordable source for torx screws to replace the common ones in knives.

If your screw is 90 thousands (0.090") in diameter, the thread size is most likely #2X56TPI. This is a US thread based on a wire gage size and is used extensively for pocket clip screws and bicycle spokes. Most of the screws I have run into with this diameter and pitch have a #6 TORX recess rather than a #9.
Here is a partial screw chart showing screw diameters, nominal sizes, and pitch in TPI (threads per inch).View attachment 426313

Try Olander Company. They have an amazing selection of screws. They let you buy what ever quantity you need, you don't have to get a hundred of them.

Someone may know some good local sources, but you didn't put your location on your profile.

If you have a pitch gage, you could measure the thread per inch, just to make sure you are ordering the correct screw. If you don't have a pitch gage, get a screw that you know is a 2-56 and see if the threads match. Nest the threads against each other and they should match up exactly.

Thank you all for your replies. This morning as I was leaving work (I work the graveyard shift) I got an email from Tammy at Taylor Brands Repair and Warranties Dept. And she is sending me a replacement plus some extra spares at no cost to me. That is awesome customer care!
