I need a source for gold

I'm not a knife maker but I do dabble at gunsmithing quite a bit and I need a source for some gold rod to insert into a front sight in handguns. The procedure is simple you just drill a hole in the front sight cut the rod so it sticks out just a bit and then drill a hole in the top of the sight and loctite in a pin to hold it all together.
However I need some pretty thin gold rod and no one on the gun boards has been able to help me yet can you guys?

A jewelry store, I mean a real jewelry store that does repairs and new work, etc, not one of those mall stores, often will sell you a few millimeters of gold wire at a reasonable price if you know what to ask for. Explain that you are a craftsman working on a project.
