I have a buddy who did me a real solid. He works in the kitchen and cabinetry trade, but does roofing, and builds. Kind of all around the block. But mainly Kitchens.
The other day we were talking after he got off work and I noticed that he had a really cheap assisted opener and I thought that since he had done
me such a good favor (nothing to do with work) I might buy him a decent blade to use while he works.
So you know what kind of work he does, and I would love some input on some ideas as to what to buy for him.
Thank you (in advance)

How much are you willing to spend? What's your price range? I'd offer up some suggestions, but without a cap I feel I'd just be throwing out knives at random.

from $50 to $100 is a fine budget :D

I think a CRKT Razel might be really useful in those jobs, but you probably don't want to get something too much bigger than what he already carries

A little over your budget when bought new from a dealer, but I'm EDC'ing Spyderco Militaries for eight years now and I find it the best production kitchen folder under 150 USD, due to blade shape, blade angle and edge positioning compared to the handle. Think you can find them for 100 USD or less on The Exchange.

An Opinel 9 or 10 INOX would be an excellent and very cheap back-up option by the way

Good luck

For a birthday gift I bought my friend who's in the army and is a heavy duty mechanic a PM2 which I purchased from the secondary market for under $100. Gave it a clean and a touch up. He was simply ecstatic because he only had carried and used cheap blades and now he can appreciate a quality built knife. Great way to start another knife nut too. Lol :D

Was wondering since the one you saw he had was assisted opening do you want to stick with A/O or that doesn't matter..?

I was first thinking Delica, but you can get a Manix 2 for like $87, shipped. Something FFG would be great in the kitchen, but the options are endless if that's the criteria, especially given the price-point. Very cool of you. :D

Spydero PM2/military depending on size preference or a benchmade / ritter griptilian. They're a little out of the budget but both are amazing if they're going to be used and loved knives.

I might suggest a good multitool instead of a knife. He might find the other tools come in handy in addition to a very usable blade on a MT. You cant go wrong with a Leatherman or Swisstool. I have no experience with SOG btw.

I second the Manix 2 suggestion. If you want to stick with AO, it's hard to go wrong with a Kershaw Blur. I don't have any first-hand experience with them, but you might also consider the new Cold Steels with CTS-XHP.

Kershaw Blur with that razor sharp svandik blade, easy to open, easy to sharpen, its my favorite bladr i got and only runs somewhere in the $60 range give or take.

I have two that are great.
Both spyderco.
The gayle Bradley in cpm-m4 steel, a wonderful knife capable of heavy duty, about $150 new.
The TUFF in cpm-3v, a folding knife for $200 that will handle anything and laugh.
I've had maybe 7 Bradley's and two Tuffs. I'm a believer.
