Need to be pointed in the right direction. I'm looking for a new knife, a slicer. Some thing made with good steel for this kind of application (i.e. slicing cheese tomatoes, paper, arm hair etc, etc). Thin blade, more razor than knife but with a pointed tip. Pocket clip, locking and around +/- 3.5" blade length. Great if it had wood or other natural scales but not that important. I can spend just about $200. Production made (or a used custom if somebody has one that needs a new home). Any ideas guys?

Hmm... kershaw Leek? Not quite 3.5 inches though. More like 3in.
Most agree that flat ground slices better. I've never noticed a difference. A Spyderco Endura is a sleek flat ground folder 3.5in with a nice tip. Benchmade 940 or 943?

Why hollow grind?

For slicing I prefer flat grind with a convex edge.

For thin, I like traditional folders. GEC is a great manufacturer. (Great Eastern Cuttlery).

You don't specify if you are looking for a modern or other type folder.

Spiderco makes some real slicers in the modern locking folder department.

My Kershaw Skyline has always done well at food prep. Thin. Hollow ground. 3 1/8 inch. $45

Hollow grind to give it some strength at the spine. I plan to sand paper convex it when i figure out what I'll get. I live close enough to sypderco to throw a rock and hit the front door. (hyperbole, but I'm pretty close). Got a few benchmade's, the 940 and 943 have no width. I'm loving my 741 onslaught. Got a few spydes, manix xl is nice but still not it. I have one GEC and one queen both very nice but no pocket clip also i need to be able to one hand open my knives.

Thanks for the suggestion though. If any more ides please let me know.

Your best bet for a thin slicer with a hollow grind and natural handle materials is going to be in the the realm of traditionals. Even the thinnest sliciest modern knives usually can't hold a candle to many traditional slip joints and the like. I'm certainly no expert, so specific models and patterns aren't really in my knowledge base, but my advice would be to hang out in the traditional sub forum for a bit. Really great folks hanging around those parts and you'll likely find something that catches your eye.

Take a look at the Spyderco Nilakka. If you're close enough to walk into the SFO, ask if they have an unmodified one. If that isn't slicer enough for you, go custom.

I'm interested in the situation where you need to slice something very thin but can't spare the other hand- sounds like a specific use and I am always interested in different knife uses.

Sounds to me if he's needing to slice cheese and shave hair...he must be shaving arm pits in bulk

In all seriousness though, you might try the CRKT ripple. It's hollow ground and quite thin at the edge. I have the one with the Acuto steel and it's a nice slicer.

Check out the Boker Haddock, wicked slicer, not so pointy but the point will still pierce.

Spyderco Centofante 3 is thinner than most modern folders and cuts like mad. It's great looking to boot. Granted it's only about a 3" blade.

KA-BAR's Dozier folders meet most of your qualifications and are highly regarded. And they're like fifteen bucks.

Tropical plant leaves. I work for a green house. Knives are much faster than sissors if razor sharp.
