I Need A Warm Pair of Pants!

It's been unusually cold where I live the last few days. I always turn off the heat at night to save $$$ on my gas and electric bill, but late night is also the best time for me to check my email and do posts like this because the phone isn't constantly ringing, and no one is bothering me because they are all in bed.

The thing is, sitting at my computer desk at night it gets cold fast! My house was built in the 1920's, so it basically has like zero insulation.

I've got pretty warm layers for most of my body except my lower torso and legs. I've tried the heaviest sweats I could find, but the cold goes right through them. I've tried to find a nice heavy pair of fleece pants (I have a nice warm fleece pullover shirt I got from the GAP that I wear all the time), but the only ones I've been able to find are thin and no warmer than cotton sweatpants.

Try tackling the problem at source rather than treating its symptoms. Here in the UK many local authorities will pay you to insulate your home; or at least subsidise the cost to a large extent.

Or, failing that, merino wool underwear!

You can get these pants that are almost too warm and get them cheap: Ice House Flannels.
These look pretty promising! Do you own a pair, Esav? Have you bought anything from the Haband Company before?

The price seems very reasonable. Another plus is they look like they would be great to wear outdoors on cold days.

you might also consider army surplus wool OG's, a far cry from a fashion statement but toasty.

Hi All-

How about a thick and toasty wool blanket and just wrap it around your legs? Another one can go around your body.

I own 5 pair of them, from last year and this year when I got 3 more.

They look perfectly ordinary for outside wear. They are a comfortable fit. If the temperature is above the 30s I will sweat inside them if I am moving around a lot.

Haband is a long-time mail-order outfit. I've had no problem in many orders from them.

TRy LLBEAN flanel lined jeans. They have some that are cheap at the outlet in MD.

I have some East German and Swiss surplus wool pants. They're made with thick, heavy wool and are quite warm. Cheap too!

So how cold we talking 50F?
Got down to 38F two nights ago. Which for Southern California is pretty cold.

Yes, I would love to have at least insulated storm windows in my house. My co-worker did his house about 5 years ago and it cost him $8,000. He definitely didn't get any financial assistance from the local energy companies. He's the cheapest bastard I know, so if there was a way to get financial aid, I'm sure he woulda done it.

You guys with the wool pants, do you find them scratchy at all? I know flannel feels good next to the skin - I love flannel sheets!
