So, although I have plenty of Bucks for every purpose I have, I got the hankering for another camping knife. I really like the looks, size and reports I have read and viewed of the Enzo Camper D2. And I am really close to pulling the trigger on one. But, due to the stellar performance of Buck on some recent warranty work, I am having a hard time buying something other than a Buck.

My reasons I want an Enzo Camper:
I do not own a D2 blade.
D2 is a tough steel.
I love the full tang design.
I like micarta scales.
It's different than anything I have right now.

My reason not to get an Enzo Camper:
It's not a Buck
No warranty to speak of.

I am looking for a camping knife, not bushcraft. I might baton a log or two just cause I can. But mostly I would use it for cutting a stick to roast a pork chop on and then slice that porch chop. Mostly for general whittling while talking to the family about waiting for deer camp to get here. But it would be nice to have a great bushcraft knife just in case I need it.

So, would all you guys with more knowledge than me, recommend a good knife from Buck that would be a good substitute for an Enzo Camper in D2? New or used, in the $120 range, that's all the knife money I have right now.

Check out a Buck 119. It's a classic camping and hunting knife.
Not the steel or handle material your looking for, but it doesn't take a backseat by any means. Will last a lifetime, be heirloom quality and guaranteed forever and I think they are still less than $50 on the net. I bought one about 8 years ago for deer hunting and it's the sharpest knife I have ever owned. I used it on 1 deer and decided it was just too nice to use so I put it up. I've been planning on buying another one to actually use and haven't gotten one yet.

Most of the time that I need something bigger than my 501 or a 6" fillet knife it's a machete, lol.
However I recently picked up a 119,brass bolster, wood handle and a 650. While I havnt used them yet I like both very well. I originally wanted (still do) the 120 but it was out of stock at the time I had to purchase.

As was already posted a 119 Special would serve you well. If you re dead set on batoning I'd also consider the 650 Nighthawk or the CSAR-T fixed blade.

119 or 124 nothing now or then compares to them. I wouldn't take another knife camping if it was free, but what do I know. Oh and always the 110 on the belt!!!!

Lots of good options mentioned. I would also look at the Hoodlum or maybe an Endeavor. Could get the Endeavor and a 2nd Buck for your price range.

124 would also be in the running for me. Try to handle one first as the handles have changed some over the years. I really like the more rounded handles over the blocky version.

Punk: Bad name good knife. 5 1/2" blade with 5160 Carbon Steel

Good name and good knife. Got two of them and their excellent. But i would go with the Enzo Camper or Fallkniven S or A1. That enzo looks like a great knife. Really like d2.

Thanks for all the input. I knew i could count on my new friends. I have a 119, but i would never baton with it, unless you count all the times i have driven thru a deer's pelvis. I have a 124, but it is the wood handle and I wouldn't ACTUALLY USE IT! I had forgot they came out with the micarta version, that's a real option. I have a Punk that i have used the last couple camp outs, and i love it. I have a knighthawk, and i love it, but not liking the plastc handle and stck tang. I have a Topps Anaconda, too big and heavy. My first thoughts were to stick with the Punk and it sounds like that may be the way to go. Virtuovice has give me the urge to put a scandi or convex on a Punk, but how will 5160 hold up with that kind of edge? I don't like the molle sheath for camping, its too bulky. Does anyone know of a leather sheath that a Punk would fit? Almost forgot, what about the old Intrepid? I never got one of those, always wanted the bigger version. Anyone got an opionion on those?

The Punk is probably the best if it could be a hard use knife or the Hoodlum if you want something larger. 5160 is one of the toughest steels out there, will take a beating and hold an edge, sort of like 1095 on steroids.

D-2 is a nice steel for something like a skinning knife or other applications where chopping or batoning or hard use isn't involved. D-2 is almost like a stainless steel in corrosion resistance, holds a pretty good edge and is tougher than most stainless steels but not as tough as 5160 or 1095.

D2 is not as tough as 5160? From talking to a couple die makers at work, you don't get any tougher than D2. But they ARE die makers not knife experts.

If you can get past the shape, it is an awesome knife.... super thick and burly.....
and mine came pretty darn sharp! I shaved with it :)

Shave with it, chop wood, rescue people, smash things, AND it can hold a 110 in the extra pouch on the sheath ;)
Shoot.... If I needed to stab a knife through a car door, this is the one I would choose for that.

Wait a minute, dont you shave with everything? LOL. The pouch is handy. I use the one on my punk for either a leatherman or slimjims. And i think a snickers will fit in there too.

HAHAHAhahaha

Yep, I do :)

BUT..... This one had the sharpest factory edge of any I have. Hair just flew off.

Yes, my leatherman fits in the pouch nicely, and so do my beloved Folding Alpha Hunters.

D2 is noted for edge retention/wear resistance, which is why machinists would like it. D2, however, is much more prone chipping/breaking than many steels.

CPM 3V, M4, CPM 154, S30V, S35VN are all more tough than D2, meaning that they resist chipping or breakage more which is important if you are chopping with the knife or batoning.
