Hello,

I just acquired a vintage True Temper Kelly Works Flint Edge double bit 3.5 lb axe head. The head is sharp and polished. I would like to mount it on a high quality hickory handle. The head measures 10-1/4 inch long, the blade is 4-7/8 inch wide, the center is 3-1/4 inch wide and the Eye Opening is 2-7/8 inch wide and 5/8th inch thick. I'm thinking a staight 36" handle. I want to be sure I order a handle that fits. I can fine tune the handle if it's a little too tight. I would appreciate some advice anyone could share.
Thanks, SteelforHands

You can get handles in a bunch of different places. Online and local hardware stores are usually the most common. Just make sure you check the grain sturcture and look it over for defects, heartwood, etc, and you will be fine.

Yes, I will look around some of the old general stores, farm stores etc around here. There are still quite a few that's been around for 50-100 years here in rural Mississippi within 50 miles. They have so much stuff even from way back handing from the ceiling, down the walls and all over the floor. So much stuff you can't hardly walk thru. I'm sure I'll find something that will fit.
Thanks

thats awesome! cant ever tell, if you look around in some of those old stores, you might find some nice old axes hidden away in a dark dusty corner...;)

Lowes carries the "true temper" handles now. Not the same company now I know. However the double bit handles are of very nice quality. Great grain and nice and true.
