I need an axe

Like the title says, I need one. I was horrified the other day to find that my dad lost the one axe he ever owned, and I really want to try using a proper axe to chop up wood.

I'm probably looking for a full sized single edged axe, but I don't even know where to begin (other than here ;))

Yeah, Council's Forest Service Spec (FSS) boy's axe would be a great first axe. No shame in a man using a boy's axe. They're a handy size - one of my favorites.

Another route is yard sales. Look for vintage American made axes with convex cheeks. Ebay has a great selection, too, and some real bargains if you're handy at fixing up a rusty old axe. Also, since you're local you could have a look at Cutter's Supply down in Enumclaw. They have a nice selection of Council axes and also carry Tennessee Hickory replacement handles.

I would say look around at yard sales and flea markets. I just picked up a nice True Temper Kelly ax for $5 and all it needs is a little sharpening and a new handle. 15 bucks total and i have a very nice ax that will last me for years.
