Well, I need an axe. I know of Gransfors Bruks, but that's a lot of change to drop on something I'll use some of the time. I need something that can hang out on my ATV so I can clear fallen trees, but don't have a chain saw on me. Used is fine, I'm just looking for suggestions for a good axe that won't cost me so much, but will work well and hold an edge.

Any of the old Vintage Plumbs, Collins, Kelly's, or a number of other vintage manufacturers should do the trick.
Check pawn shops, yard and estate sales, or eBay.
I guess some folks have even had luck on Craigslist.
If you don't want to go the vintage route there is also Council Tool, which is a fine American made axe.

Good luck :)

I love my Gransfors small forest axe but keep an Estwing axe on my wheeler. It works just fine and probably set me back $50!

My favorite axes and hatchets are the old ones found at garage sales, antique shops or found in buckets of stuff that I re-handled.

Woodrow, Lonesome Dove is one of my Favorite movies (series) !! Reminds me of watching it with my Dad. Sorry to go off topic.....:nevreness:
