As most of you probably know, thanks to the efforts of Knife Rights and @Critter, Texas voted to repeal its ban on "illegal knives."

This includes double edged blades, bowies and stilettos among others.

I wasn't ever all that concerned as most of the banned knives were ones that I wouldn't have carried anyway. I've no interest in carrying a 9" bowie. There was one that stood out though.

I've long coveted the Protech Dark Angel. It's just gorgeous. The handle shape, the blade shape, the long cutout down the center... perfect.

I wonder though if there aren't more knives out there that I've been missing out on because of the previously silly laws. Any double edged knives, stilettos, etc. that I never even took a second glance at because they were illegal to carry.

So, what would you folks recommend in the "illegal knife" category? Stipulations: under $500, under 5.5oz and must have a pocket clip.

Eye candy:

I don't know if balisongs were legal there or not, or gravity knives. The Paragon Warlock is one of the coolest gravity knives I've seen in a while.

I like that dumb unique stuff though.

I'm going to be that guy that says "ballistic knives lawl"

I've been hoping someone would send me one of those to sharpen since I opened here on BF. No such luck.

I agree. I'm an engineer at heart and tend to enjoy funky mechanisms. Even if they're not the most practical.

There's the benchmade infidel. Just under 5oz with D2 steel. Not as good looking but very sufficient at what it's supposed to be.

Ok, fantasy setting, practicality out of the window, for coolness, a daisho or a rapier and main gauche. :D Downsizing a bit, I'd look at a Fairbanks Applegate dagger / Gerber Mk II. I'd also vote in the Bali.

More on the practical side, a bowie from 6" onwards.

Even more practical, something smaller like a sog seal pup?

Really, if I were allowed a fixie, I'd be looking at my kabar 1211 or a seal pup or a mora companion. Yes, I'm kinda cheap that way.

Love my Protechs. The Dark Angel is a single action OTF with a safety. It is a nice knife..well anything that Protech makes for that matter..huge fan of theirs not just because they are local. Owned an Infidel by BM as well. Nice knife.
Depends if you want an OTF or side opening auto (if an auto is what you want).
I also have a Rat Worx mini MRX which I just love! Fun, fun knife

Autos have been legal here for some time now, but restrictions remained on "bowies" with no clarification of the term, "stilettos" again with no description, double edged blades and a few others.

I've also always been drawn to the Don from Protech, but never bought one because I figured it was too close to a classic "stiletto."

I'm not interested in fixed blades. I want to like them, but then they just sit on the desk.

I know you said it had to have a pocket clip ... but I sometimes carry the ZT 0150 ... its a doubke edge dagger with a good sheath that has a good clip since its designed as a boot knife ... so Im not sure if that would meet your quailifications but I love mine. I wear it in pocket or in the small of my back.

Sorry I hit reply and got your post about no fixed blades. So leaves the ZT out.

Folders... Were >= 4 inch folders illegal prior?

If so, I guess there's a ton of big folders to look at.

I'm kind of waiting for the CS Frenzy to hit our shores. Can't wait to handle that, see if I like it. I have a 4" Ti-Lite which I like, but to be brutally honest, I find myself that it is impractical, it's about as useful to me as a FS dagger, so I never bought the 6". The CS Spartan was on my radar for a long while, but can't justify it, too heavy. Likewise the espada etc. nice but eh.... too big. Something CS has might tickle your tastebuds though. I want a frenzy!

I like Emersons, I don't know if you do, I'd look at their big ~4" models. Maybe the Kershaw Emerson 4KXL (~4" drop point) might be your gateway at its cheap price point. See if you like 'em, that kind of thing before plonking down hard cash on the real McCoy.

Anyway, today I'm as happy as a pig in mud. Went to the shop, handled a sog seal pup, had to leave with it. It just felt too good to be left behind.
