I Need Another EKI…

OK I don’t really need another EKI but I want one and need some advice.

I bought my first EKI, a Blackbird (coated / tanto) last year. I was just about to buy an un-waved CQC7A I found on-line, but after reading the specs the knife is about the same dimensions as the Blackbird.

So here’s my question is there much of a difference between the two? Or should I get something different like the waved commander?

The EK Persian caught my eye too, anyone have it, any thoughts?

I mostly use my knives for light duty / collecting and an occasional hunting / woods walk.

speaking for me i dont like the spearpoint EKI's very much, have always thought a '7 should be a tanto, but thats just me.

not nutz about the commander either, much prefer the SOCFK, CQC12,13, I&I tanto & '8 FWIW. not that its bad just like others more, myself.

the P-Tac is a good one, i have had a couple, if ya can find/afford a ECA P-Tac grab it, they have the ZBG blade, and are handground, kinda pricey though ($350 or so) but just the std one is good too, it is a dedicated SD knife though.

the blackbird and a "7a would be fairly similar i suppose,

I think the CQC7 A or B is pretty much out . I'll check all the other models, there's quite a few I like

Anyone handle the Persian?

the persian is a sweet knife, but it's more for self-defence (SD). The blade is not designed for utility work.

If you want one that is a good SD/utility knife, I think the commander or cqc-8, 10, 11, or 13 would be better choices.

Thanks guys...

I like the Persian, the CQC 8 and the 10. The Persian and the CQC10 seem to a lot of knife for the money.

Thanks for the tip , I almost missed this post....

Is this a special model? I can't find too much information on it... but I like it.

I couldn't resist the price, so I ordered one right after I made this last post. it's already been shipped..... I found some old postings by SIFU1A that explained the socfk model

It seems like a great deal.

Since my Blackbird has the tanto blade and the socfk-A has the spear point ( and wave) they're somewhat different. Plus I always liked the handle of the Spec War.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Its an addiction. I picked up a Spec-War last week. That makes 4 Emersons now.

Yeah I noticed that with knives in general... But yes the Emerson's are special.

The Blackbird was my first Emerson and also the most expensive single knife I had ever bought ( up to that point).

I really like the quality of the product , this one won't be my last.

Sweet, I bought a SOCFK on sale too. Its my new ECD.

Vu

Yeah I figured they would email me back telling me it's out of stock ( like every other Emerson I find at a decent price), but no I got a tracking number today.

I'll let everyone know how much I like it when I get it.

those SOCFK's are great knives, are my fav production EKI, back before '7s were waved i wondered why anyone would ever get a '7 when ya could get a waved SOCFK for the same price/in some cases less$.

i bet ya like it.

i dont think i'll ever get rid of my green G10 black tanto blade SOCFK.

I got the SOCFK yesterday, It's a great deal...

It's my first wave'd Emerson , I got to get the hang of it , but all in all it's a great knife.

Here's a picture with my Blackbird, very similar in size but the SOCFK feels bigger in the hand.

Even the Super's are marked down. I just can't justify one seeing as I already have a Spec War and a Super CQC-7.

Yeah , I just saw that too ... I think I might get a commander next, I've always like that or the mini. But not until next year or another sale..
