I went on a hike to scout a trail for a youth backpacking trip coming up the end of june, and I was wearing 5 year old Brook Adrenalines, (great trail runner by the way) and after over 1000 miles running XC and track and and and all the other stuf i used them for, I realized i cant hike in them any more. i've been looking at getting some new boots, now that i have some side jobs lined up and was wondering if ya'll could help me. I have a wide foot, id like a plastic mid-sole shank, un lined leather and under 150. ill be doing a lot of research on my own but i wanted some more experienced advice.
Thanks

I'm telling you right now I posted a similar thread about six months ago. Meindl hiking boots from Cabelas are unbeatable. They are not cheap but they are great.

Personally, I find Lowa fit my feet well and last a long time. I bought a pair of heavy hikers so long ago I don't really remember when I got them. They cost me $300 at the time and have easily out lasted several pairs of ~$100 boots. A good hiking or camping store with a dedicated boot fitter is your friend and money well spent. Buy once, cry once sort of thing. Nothing will ruin a hike like an ill fitting pair of boots.

Asolo, Danner, Lowa, Vasque, Zamberlan, Scarpa just make sure you walk around in them for a couple minutes and then look at your feet after you take them off, any small red marks after 2 minutes could = blister after 20 miles, I like Asolo because of their quality and several of their boots are still made in europe, some in china, Danner are made in Portland, Oregon some in china. Scarpa's higher end line are made in Italy.

$80: Hi-Tec Altitude
$125: Merrell high top Goretex
$220: Lowa Renegade GTX

I wear red wing loggers everyday at work (cable installer) and everytime I go for a hike. They are great boots imo.

Take the Meindl Island Goretex MFS Active.
i have very bad and weak feet, but these boots are heaven on my feet.
Water proof in every situation, expensive, but boots for life.

Danner FT Lewis will last forever.
