the other day i came home and my video was gone. i could hear the pc working and when i did stuff, i could hear sounds working , so i am 100% windows was still up and running, i just had no video.
I could not get a pci video card (i cant use pci-e) so I got an agp video card.
I put that in and now all I get is the motherboard screen. (press delete to enter bios kind of thing) but, I have video. just no windows.
I can hear the hard drive spinning up and the cpu fan is going, but my keyboard isnt lighting up or working and after a minute the computer restarts itself.
What do you guys think the problem is?

Beyond my skills DIJ, sorry to hear you're having serious trouble.:(

Two things:

1. Enter the bios and see if there is an option to disable the onboard video card.

2. Boot windows into safe mode (You should be able to hit f8 right before the windows loading screen). Once in safe mode, open up your device manager and remove your video card from the list.

Hopefully, once you reboot windows will detect the new card and just run with the basic drivers until you install the ones that the card came with.

Danny, with the computer off un plug the keyboard and mouse and plug them back in then try turning on the computer again. You could have a loose connection with the keyboard. And if that is the case sometimes it also happens with the mouse.

Another thing to check out is; maybe there are some loose wires on the inside of your computer. Maybe you accidentally knocked the hard drive data cable loose. Drive will still power up but computer wont finish booting if it's not getting the data from the drive.

Also try unpluging the power from the back of the computer and plugging it back in. - I have an older computer that sometimes freeks out and gets stuck in the Bios screen. Unplugging and replugging it in seems to fix it. Strange yes and easy to check.

Good luck!!

Might also want to try reseating your video card to make sure it is making good contact also check and make sure your CPU fan is working.

May I suggest:

The mighty sledge...not just for collecting debts anymore!

I took it to a repair shop and today they tell me it was the motherboard.
Everything else is fine, just the motherboard.
That ought to be a relatively cheap replacement and repair.
When I get it back, it ought to ROCK!

Sounds good.... Though if your system is a few years old they might have a hard time finding a straight replacment. IE they might need to replace the Motherboard CPU and ram and modern systems do PCI-E as you know.

Good luck and please tell us how it goes.

I think the local Parkour enthusiasts have sabotaged your computer. You can't expect to bad mouth Parkour and get away with it forever.:);)
