I'm getting ready to buy a new fixed blade. I've been looking at different TOPS knives (Nite Chaser, Cochise, Shadow Tracker, UTE XL, and Sea Wolfe). Are they worth the money? Are they really endorsed by US Special Forces?

murderedsongbird,
I have 2 Tops knives. The Bush Ranger (52100steel) and a Pasayten (154CM steel). I like the Bush Ranger very much and love the swivel steel clamp but the Pasayten did not come very sharp and it is one of the hardest knives I have ever tried to get and edge on, even using diamond tools.

I would highly recommend one of the Fehrman Knives. They are the only knife makers that put an edge on all their knives to match Bob Doziers blades....very very sharp as received.

Check out there web site:

Don't sell Ontario 1095 carbon steel knives short. They make a great knife! Just my .02.

I agree. They are excellent knives. Here are mine.

What will be your primary use for it? Don't be too swayed by "endorsed by Special Forces."

There are lots of good choices starting with those mentioned. Also consider Bark River, Benchmade Red Class Rants and the old school blades like Buck.

Only problem I have with some TOPs knives is all the weird notches & cut-outs that seem to serve no purpose.
